I have an Ingersoll Rand T30 10 HP compressor that runs OK and will bulid up 150 psi without any problems. But when the pressure drops enough to kick the pressure switch, the motor won't start. just tries to run. Bleed off air to about 75.psi and motor will kick on and run, builds pressure to 150 psi and kick off. When it needs to restart the motor won't start.

When the compressor comes up to pressure and kicks off, you should normally hear a gasp of air escaping. That gasp is the release of pressure from the compressor itself - not the tank, and it is supposed to get released so that the compressor can restart without being preloaded with compressed air. My guess is that the gasp is not happening. It is probably some debris or a gummy mechanism. The mechanism is supposed to be triggered by the same mechanism that shuts off the motor.

where is this mechanism located that releases the pressure from the compressor so it can restart? Is this called the unloader valve?

  • Anonymous Aug 30, 2010

Yes, it's the unloader. There is usually a tube attached to the pressure switch. There is usually a pin sticking out of the end of this tube, much like the pin in the center of a tire valve stem. It works much like that too. The other end of this tube goes to the plumbing somewhere between the compressor and the tank - it has to be connected upstream of the check-valve just before the tank.

you may have a Regulator on Air-Compressor Mount on the Gauge or next to it this allow you to set a pressures from 0 - 200 psi this to helps you maintain steady and reliable operation of your air tools.

Ingersoll rand compressor type 30 is not unloading. Auxillary valve seems to be dirty with oil and at 150 psi the compressor is not unloading.

It sounds like the pressure switch is bad or out of adjustment. Typically the pressure switch is set at 175psi on a 2340. If the auxillary valve you are speaking of is on the pressure switch and is constantly blowing air from it you have a bad receiver tank check valve. Also if you are getting a lot of oil out the valve at the pressure switch you may have some oil control rings bad.

I am trying to fix an ingersoll rand hxp 50 se it starts and all sensors seem to work but it trips out on low unload sump on display and there isn't any faults in the manual that can lead me to the problem...

I would first look toward the Minimum Pressure check valve. You will have to remove several covers to access. It should be located on the end of the after cooler. Also the blow down valve will cause this problem if it does not close. These units do not have oil pumps and depend on air pressure to push the oil thru the system. When the air pressure drops below 15 psi in the sump the compressor shuts down. Also check the pressure transducer to make sure it's reading correctly. A pressure gage in the discharge line would be OK. Compare the Controller read out to your pressure gage. They should be close but could read 5 PSI or so difference.

My ingersoll rand garagemate's regulated pressure drops from 90psi to 70psi almost instantly after using air tools, even though tank pressure is above 100psi. What is going on here? I replaced the...

are you talking about the little regulator gauge droping while you use it, as it does.its all to do with how much psi can pass through the airline at once. ther for since air is leaving the regulator it drops but when u stop using it it should shoot up straight away, if it doesnt means your regulator needs ajusted.

Adjusting the pressure on the 2340-E

most air compressors have a pressure switch on them.this is used to adjust the desired pressure you want to reach.the second adjustment is for setting the pressure for when you want it to cycle back on.lets say you want it to run at 100 PSI.one of your adjustment in this box will control this , when you are using the unit and the pressure starts to drop to lets say 90 PSI you can adjust the unit to cycle

Unit trips breaker wont run . pulling high amps

when electrical all is ok, try if it wil run from zero psi. then you are sure that it dont have to start against a high pressure. if it runs then, check checkvalve and minimum pressurevalve.
