I have a JVM140J003 that came with the house, and never had a problem with it for the last 14 years until today. The machine just quit while I was heating rice, now no light, no clock nothing. It did not trigger the circuit breaker. The unit has a fan and was mounted right above my stove. My question is whether it is worthwhile to repair or replace ? Is it possible to just take the unit down without too much trouble?

Loews has similar units starting around 159.00. Once you have determined it is really nonfunctional, it will likely cost more to repair it than to replace it. Sounds like it had a good long run, though. As to removing it , there should be a removable trim panel on the top or fasteners in the side or top cupboards to remove. Then you have the vent and electricity to disconnect. Be sure the proper breaker is off when you do this (mandatory safety nag). Hope this helps some:)

My microwave oven just stopped cooking. The light comes on and the Motor is running, but much louder than normal.

The magnetron in your microwave has probably gone out. The magnetron is the part of the microwave oven that produces microwaves. If you unit is a built in model, it will likely cost more to fix than a new one. Same thing goes for a countertop unit.

Microwave works perfectly but does not heat

Sadly your microwave has done it's last cooking. The mechanism you need to make it cook again would cost you more than a replacement microwave.

Sharp Microwave Sparking and loud buzzing...

I think I would find another microwave. You do not need a fire hazard in your house.

GE Microwave quit

Hats off to your 20 year old GE machine. That is the the longest lasting microwave I have heard of. When they finally go out, they are done, there is nothing left to even do with them. Most of the parts are obsolete. However you might find a appliance store that still has one similiar to yours in their backroom that they use for spare parts for those like you who might need it. You might take it to them to see if it is worth repair.

I can say this, after 20 long years, the machine will cost more to fix, and for what you will spend on repair, you can buy a different one that can also be energy effiecient.
