Memorex television is not working with my new Phillips DVD/VCR combo

I just bought a new Phillips DVD/VCR combo and it is not working with my Memorex television. I hooked it up exactly like the book says and it is not working. I did lose the Memorex remote a long time ago and I am just wondering if that is the problem. Do I need to buy a new remote for the two to work together? If I do, what remote would you recommend? My tv is about 7 years old but in great condition.

    How can I use the a/v input if I don't have a remote to change it? There isn't an option on the television. If I need to buy a new remote do you have any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Depending on how you hooked it up; if thru coax cable the you have to use channel 3 or 4 on the tv to use Philips. If you are connecting with video and audio cables then you have to select a/v input on tv to use.

    Most universal remotes when coded will let you switch a/v inputs. Look for a universal remote that has Memorex in its list.

I would suggest you to unplug the unit for a while (around 30 minutes), then just plug it back in. If that does not work, you will have to take the TV to a local repair shop.

Problem with old TV
The channel is almost always 3 or 4. Be sure you have the VCR connections correct. Just hook up the TV and VCR alone to start with and try both the VCR and DVD. Also the output of the VCR should show a blue screen.

Connecting dvd/vcr combo with tv and digital cable box.
You trying to put the DVD/VCR combo between the cable box and the TV? OK, cable out goes to vcr in, vcr out goes to tv, I think you got that. Now there should be a tv/vcr button on the vcr/dvd, you need to press that when the unit is on. Also, make sure you are on the correct input on both the vcr and the tv, usually video 1 or AUX and choose line in or L1 on the vcr/dvd. If the tv/vcr button is toggled, itll completely bypass the vcr/dvd player.

Hey I have the same situation Go to MR REMOTE.com and give them your tv model usually will have a new manufacture remote under $30.00 ( just add Batteries and it works)no codes to enter!) I think the Memorex is lacking on the universal codes Especially for the DVD/TV/VCR combos
