The shutter only works in M250 and B, and none of the P,S,A or M programs are responding. Metering works fine, I get numbers in the LCD- display in the viewfinder. Any suggestions on how to get the shutter to work in P,S,A and M?

Please, what metering can you not see? The view finder has numerous items to view. If you cannot see anything is the camera turned on, is the battery charged? Next are you referring to the LCD on the camera back. If yes, please go to the Custom Settings Menu number 06, is it off? That is found on page 88 of the D80 manual. If none of that works get back with us with more information or contact Nikon.

A few things to try, based on my FG's operation: - The most obvious- are your batteries good? Correct type? If they are: - When all is well the red LED metering lights will appear in the viewfinder window on the right side, in the range of shutter speed numbers. - The red LED metering lights are only activated when you press the shutter release button (halfway). The lights go out after a few seconds if the shutter button is not held down. Just tap the shutter button to reactivate them. - The shutter speed setting dial must NOT be on B (Bulb) or M90 (non-electronic Manual mode) if you want to see the red LED metering lights. The lights do not operate on these two settings because metering is irrelevant here (you'd be doing the metering, not the camera). - If you're in P (Program mode) the lens aperture must be set all the way to the smallest setting (usually f22 or f16, depending on the lens). If not, you'll only see blinking lights at the top and bottom of the shutter speed range on the right in the viewfinder. That's a reminder to set the lens to the smallest (highest numeric) aperture.

Sounds like the CCD or the Shutter are not working. Canon only sells the CCD as part of the optical unit, which includes the shutter. However the new optical unit will require reprogramming of the main pcb to focus correctly

Hey Mike, This is an easy one. With the battery grip attached, you can only have either Shutter Priority or Aperture Priority work properly. You can change it with the custom function settings of the camera. So you can change it to work with Aperture Priority if you use that more so then shutter priority won't work. Brandon

I have found with this camera that when you set the aperture and shutter speed in manual it will display recommended settings and not the settings you had just set. But when the picture is taken and you display the settings in software that the camera used, it actually uses the settings you set and not the ones displayed on the camera. I think the settings displayed are recommended settings. Very strange! Also the camera changes settings on zooming.
