New memory is not recognized

Make sure it is the correct ram for your computer. If you just added one ram chip then try swapping them and make sure they have a tight fit.

To test the new chip replace the old one with it and turn on your machine. If it doesn't see it then it is either bad or not the correct one.

most probably the problem that you have is not on the RAM stick itself but on the memory slot. Both memories can be detected by slot 1 indicates that both are working.. both working memories cant be detected in slot 2 which indicates a bad memory slot

Go to netgear.com site download the driver (if you don't already have it) for your system and device. Install driver and software before you hook ujp device then plug in when it tells you to.

mem needs to be installed in pairs, ie two 512 chips

Try upgrading your Bios first, also make sure that the memory that you ar putting in your Laptop is type PC-2700. Other than this, I know that this comptuer has a 2G limit and should have no problem with it.

Buy a 1gb memory specifically for that model and make of laptop or vice versa get a universal one if that dont work.

have you changed the cd and install a music cd if it still does that same thing chances are you need a new cd drive

Will the PC boot? It may just be loose. Try it again. The PC may not boot if it does'nt recognize the memory.

I removed the drive and reinstalled it and solved the problem. Thank you for your fast response. Obviously HP doesn't out us little people.
