Most likely failed capacitors in the power supply. I recently had the same problem with my 26 month old Samsung LN46A750. Samsung paid for the installation of an upgraded power supply board.

Samsung HLP5085W DLP - lamp replaced about 7 months ago. I powered up TV and got strange colors with flickering picture. Turned unit off and triangle symbol appears with lamp showing - needs replacement....

Strange colors and flickering picture symptom shows problem with color wheel and/or dmd board.
Lamp is only light source in dlp tv and it has nothing with colors or picture flicker.
TV goes to protection mode because of some internal problem as mentioned above.
If you wish to repair tv by yourself then you should have service manual copy in hand and that can be downloaded from HERE for small fee.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Check this link it may help - also if your lamp is trying to light you should see some light and hear a sparking noise from the board (ballast board with spark gap lighting)the lamp is plugged into (internally).

Display problem with my Samsung HLP5085W DLP TV

What you are describing sounds like a tuner issue. Samsung had a run of bad tuners, and was recalled. If your watching a chennel and the image tears, this is the sign of the bad tuner. It is possible that the wobulation circuit is unstable. First units we bothered by subwoofers thumping the TV. Not much help other than that, good luck

Dlp has no picture only flickering lamp & timer lights.

Verify color wheel is reconnected, color wheel needs to get up to speed before lamp strikes

Ballast or color wheel next?

The color wheel will normally spin-up even for a brief moment when the set is powered up. I have not seen a color wheel go out with a lamp. I have seen a ballast go bad with a lamp. I would replace the ballast first. You did not state wheather the color wheel was noisy or not. On the Samsung DLP, the color wheel is normally very noisy before it is gone. I hope this will help you.

TV won't stay on

Hello Fonzell!
Regarding the tv turning, my question is, do you hear a clicking sound? if so, it's most probable tio be your ballast, that might not have enough voltage to keep on with your lamp, and that's why it shuts off.
You could try replacing it and seeing if it resolves your issue, I believe they're running around 70 dlls..
have a great one ! :)

Samsung HLS4266W 43" dlp

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

DLP TV Samsung HLP4674w No Picture

If you hear a ticking and or buzzing sound as it is trying to start up then most likely the replacement lamp is bad. Take it out and reseat it one more time to see what happens. The noise you hear is the ballast attempting to fire the lamp up.
