Acer Aspire 5517 (wal-mart), bought xmas 2009. Windows 7 home premium, build 7600. If I enable wireless card, Atheros AR5B95, computer bluesceens. "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" ndis.sys - address FFFFF880014465D6 base at... Must disable in safe mode to regain bootable system. Computer has only been used for photo viewing from digital camera (usb & SD card), and installing windows updates. I tried one restore point without success. When it was bought, it asks you to make system backups, which we did, but before I whack my system, this feels more like a hardware issue.

    The laptop includes a partition for restoring to factory.
    In the end, that is what we had to do.
    The system backs ups we spent hours making on purchase never did work.

Possibly yes. Sometimes drivers will only work on either 32 bit or 64 bit depending on how the code was written. You could try this website if you haven't yet - it lists both 32 and 64 bit drivers.

Your notebook does not have compatible drivers for Windows Vista. It only supports Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit). It is highly advisable to just go back to Windows 7.

For you to use the Wireless and Bluetooth of you laptop you need to install the latest driver so that it will be detected by the computer and works properly. Click Here to download. Select the Type of Operating System that youre using wheter it is 32 or 64bit. The drop down is located on the upper right part of the website.

You will have to navigate this site; enter 'notebook', 'Aspire', and scroll to 5100; after that, you will have to choose 32 bit or 64 bit. That being said, Acer does not support Windows 7 yet-you can try the Vista drivers; more often than not they will work. One note-I cannot tell just from the info you supplied whether you have the Atheros or Broadcom chip-You should be able to determine that in Device Manager.

Aspire 5315-2153 wireless or not?
I bought the same Acer at Wal-mart and it IS wireless,,, Sounds like Acer gave you the run around. If you already had a wireless router, then why on earth would you think you needed to purchase another one??? even if Acer told you to. That just doesn't make sense. What kind of router did you have to begin with? (Make and model please) Are your other computer that you have on the internet connected with a cable? If so they are not wireless.
