Okay... help. Our 4 year old Maytag Legacy top load washer is smoking and smells like burned rubber. It smells like when you burn a belt in a vacuum. Took the back apart and examined it - no burnt electronics... but the front is a pain to get off. Does anyone know of a problem like this occuring in this make and model.
Husband notes that this happens during the spin cycle.

Have the same problem exactly!!!! Help!!! What's wrong? Took off back panel and opened the top but couldn't see anything wrong. Apparently something's wrong or there wouldn't have been smoke and the machine quit working.
Same problem, smoke and squealing during the spin cycle. If I stop it while this is happening and try to spin the "basket" by hand it is really hard, almost impossible to do. I have turned the "basket" by hand in the past if the load had become unbalanced and it is usually very easy to turn. Please help!
