Mode Dial and Lens Problems! Nikon Coolpix 4600

My camera is acting weird. First when I tried to turn it on the lens would only go out a little. I turned the camera on and off again multiple times, and all the lens would do was go in and out (a little). I dropped my camera and now all it'll do when I turn it on is say WARNING! MODE DIAL IS NOT IN THE PROPER POSITION! when it IS in the proper position. I'm looking at it right now, the mode dial is set fine. I don't know whats going on, and I need my camera. Can someone help me?

Well the camera was dropped so i think it needs to go to a panasonic service technician. most likely the lens is damaged and the mode switch.

Nikon coolpix

Not sure what Coolpix you have, I assume one young one. Not knowing how you did set up the camera, I even have to guess more.
I start with a questions, and I hope when you try to answer this, you will take the camera in your hands. You even could look into the manual if you have it, or pick up the manual on Nikon USA.
Did you put your camera in any other mode then the automatic mode?
When the dial is on the green camera logo, you should be fine. If not, try to switch to automatic and take a picture.
Be aware if you put the camera on a tripod, you should switch off the image stabilisation, because the camera is fixed and nay correction, will cause blurr.
You also should look if the front of the lens is clean. Don't start rubbing the front element, only use the correct lens cleaning cloth or lens pen. Never use a paper towel or any fluid, that is not special made to clean a lens. The coating of every lens is essential for its sharpness and for correct colour. With a little alcohol you ruin every lens, because it could resolve the coating. Please, if you still have problems, tell me what model coolpix you use and does not what you want.

Nikon Coolpix 4600 lens extended and won't turn on

Go to store and purchase a memor card reader/writer. It will allow you to put your memory card in it and download the pictures to the computer via the usb port. Make sure the reader/writer is made to accept your type of memory card.

Camera stuck in "lens error" mode

Hello, It's time to let a Nikon camera repairman take a look. If lens does not pop out, then it could be motor, shutter, etc, etc. Check out one of our Camera Repair providers and get a repair quote.

Nikon Coolpix camera help

Hi:
Broken lens.
Try to force the lens gently out or in as you turn it on. This may help, and it may damage the lens even more. However, I have fixed a couple lenses which had problems as you mentioned.
If you use the wrist strap (that is what it is for to protect your camera) it will save a lot of problems.
Take care with the camera, it will last a lot longer.

If it is beyond repair, sell it on a site such as Ebay for parts or as is. At least you can get a few dollars for it.

My camera {nikon coolpix l3}

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

Turning camera on, gets "LENS ERROR" and just stays on screen, can't take pictures.

Take a look at the little 2 grey pieces that open and close over your lens when you turn it on and off. Those might be jammed, if so try to straighten them out. That would be the easy answer, otherwise you might have a problem with lens inside the camera in which case youll need to get it repaired.

Nikon coolpix 4600.

Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:

"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor trnsp.gif Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? trnsp.gif Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove and replace the battery.
  3. Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and we will do everything to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible. Click Here for our Nikon Authorised Service Centres details.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

Hope this helps.
