I am trying to buy a transmitter from eBay for my relative old garage door opener (sears craftsman, model 139.18850). some one on the eBay offers a transimitter with the model 139.53779. I am not sure if it will work with my opener(receiver).
THE ODDS OF IT WORKING ARE SLIM
YOU CAN BUY A UNIVERSAL REMOTE FROM CHAMBERLAIN / LIFTMASTER / CRAFTSMAN THAT WILL WORK WITH YOUR EXISTING REMOTE A MUCH BETTER SOLUTION.

A wireless keypad will not work with your opener. Your opener is pretty old and the new models are much safer. You might consider replacing the entire thing.
If both remotes quit at or about the same time then it is most likely the receiver that has quit. Especially if you have had electrical storms in the area. The receiver is part of your logic board.
Press and hold the homelink button and wait till the red light flashes slowly, but don't release it. Now hold a working remote 3 inches away, press the remote button and hold it.When the red Homelink buttom fllashes quickly, release both buttons. Now go to the opener and push the learn button. Now go back to your car and press and hold the Homelink button. You will see the lights on your opener flash. Now your Homelink button should operate your garage door.
The lock is probably engaged. Look at the wall button, the green light is probably flashing. Hold down the lock button for 3 seconds and light should be solid. Your remotes should work now
