Replaced both IC's and the R will not move at all now. Used a DMM and checked all the resistors, I notice that the Hitachi repair kit for this set, and the service manual for this set list two different Ohm ratings for a few of the convergence circuit resistors. There is a 2.2Ohm, RK42 that reads 3ohm on my DMM, BUT, for comparison, I checked another 2.2Ohm resistor elsewhere and it read 3ohm on my DMM as well, so I do not suspect that resistors are faulty, but why are some of the values in the repair kit manual different (higher) than the ones listed in the service manual? Repair says the 2.2 should be 3.3OHM. Should I purchase resistors that match the ohm rating for repair kit?

    Part 2:

repair kit has STK-394 or 396-160, whereas I just replaced with the excat STK392-110. Also, now when I enter service mode, nothing will adjust, unlike before I replaced them, I could adjust the RGB, barely moving the R, but now none move, in manual convergence adjustment, the red line does not go the entire length of the screen as it did before. I did swap the connectors for red and blue, and blue was unable to be changed, and red could, of course this was tricking the circuit, but it's helped me pinpoint the problem to one IC. Any suggestions? I checked for solder splash, loose or missing connectors, made sure none of the joints for the IC's we're bridged and everything checks out.

55" Hitachi colr Red has dropped to the bottom right

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Too much red!

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Hitachi 65xwx20b convergence

Your message says you "replaced stk392-150", did you replace both of the stk`s or just one of them??? One is for RGB vertical the other is for RGB horizontal, you should always replace both stk`s as a set, Hitachi recommends you use a "replacement kit"
part number X480306", this kit includes both stk`s with a new & supposedly improved set of stk`s as well as all resistors that are required for proper set-up, they strongly recommend you change all of the parts in their kit. The only other thing besides IC`s & resistors that could cause your problem is:
1) bad dcu output (you need a scope to check this)
2) you`ve lost either the +15 volt line or the -15 volt line to the IC`s, "Fxxx" chemical fuse open in power supply.

Solution:
Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com.
They have put together a kit for the Hitachi TV sets.
The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

Colors all messed up

The fact that you used the term "magic focus" tells me you have a Hitachi projection set. When the colors no longer line up on a Hitachi projection TV, it means that most likely one of the convergence output IC's has shorted out. Sometimes a shorted convergence output IC will burn up a low value resistor too. I have also seen a convergence IC crack loose from the board and burn up 3 low-value resistors. If your set is using the STK392-110 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer upgraded STK392-150 IC's. The output IC's should be resoldered / replaced and the circuits checked and realigned by a qualified tech familiar with Hitachi projection sets.

Hitachi 53FDX20B

If you have a color (red, green or blue) that is bowed inward from any side, then one of your convergence IC's has cracked loose or burned out. There is no way to fix that manually - the IC and possibly a resistor must be resoldered or replaced, and that should be handled by someone experienced in repairing and realigning convergence circuits.
