From what you have described and what i have read on the rca technical forum. the problem seems to be a flash memory error or the slide lock is activated on the unit. Is the unit locked? if not
it means the flash memory is no longer working or is intermittently working. There isnt much you can do on the consumer level. And with the price of the unit its not really worth paying to get repaired. I would suggest replacing the unit. From what i can tell rca charges 55$+ shipping to fix this error. If its under warranty they will fix it free of charge, as long as it has not been tampered with. If its not under warranty its up to you to decide is it worth paying 55$+shipping or buying a new unit. No one likes to hear this, But unfortunately that is the case.

It just irks me that this is the second RCA MP3 player that I have purchased this year. This one was not so expensive and lasted 1.5 months. The last one I got for Christmas last year, ( was very costly) and broke down within 6 months. RCA does not honor their warrantys.
if its only been a month and a half the unit is covered under warranty still and can be sent back to the manufacturer and at least repaired for free of charge but i dont know how much shipping is for the unit.

how full is the mp3 player? does it have more then 20mb's free of space.

My MP3 player is not full . I only had approx 170 songs on it when it went kaput. Also on the RCA easyrip symbols : the symbols for downloading from computer to player and the player itself are in grey color whereas the rest of the symbols are in red. When I click on these "grey symbols" it says please connect your player . If you could help it would be appreciated.
