Freesing up and bucket not filling - Kenmore 5230 Dehumidifier

There is supposed to be an auto-shutoff float in the bucket to prevent overfilling of the bucket. You have either removed it or it is defective. The fact that it runs constantly has more to do with the humidity and the setting that you have the unit set to, Obviously there is adequate humidity in the space or the bucket would not fill. You need to look for, find, and repair the shut-off float, or, if possible, some units allow you to connect a drain hose either to the bucket or directly to the unit to drain the water to a drain. If you choose this option, remember that the hose must remain lower than the top of the bucket or it will not drain properly and the bucket will still overflow.

Assuming you have a hose connected to the bucket for drainage, it is necessary that the end of the hose be lower than the top level of the bucket or the bucket will fill before the hose drains. I see many people who have their units on the floor and run a hose up into a sink and wonder why the bucket fills. Gravity works.....if you cannot find a lower place to drain the water then you must raise the unit up on a table or stand of some sort to get the bucket higher than the drain.

Where are you running the hose to drain it? If the end of the hose is higher than the top of the bucket, then the bucket will fill and overflow. The drain hose must drain out into some place that is at least lower than the top of the bucket. That way the bucket won't overflow. Basic physics.

I understand that the bucket fills with water and overflows on your Frigidaire dehumidifier, model# FAD704DUD. Please make sure your dehumidifier is installed on a level that will support it with a full bucket of water. I've got the same problem. It drained through the hose for 6 months, but recently stopped and now fills the bucket. I connected a new hose, but that didn't help. I found some debris inside the dehumidifier (where you connect a hose to), but removing that didn't help. I may try taking the unit apart to see if somehow a cricket or some sludge got built up inside.
I'll post my findings. Hopefully it won't be too complex or nasty!!

You've developed a sealed system problem.

Take the bucket out, fill it with water, and see if it has a hole or crack. Also look above the bucket and see if the drippage is coming straight down or being diverted by an obstruction.

There must be a blockage in the hose causing the water to back up and flow into the bucket. Try pushing a flexble peice of wire through the hose to unblock it.

You should be able to connect the unit to a drain hose - then you won't have to empty the bucket. Have you tried that?

Otherwise, you only have 2 options I can think of:
1) empty the bucket frequently (before it fills up) or
2) siphon off a bit of the water before jarring the bucket

BTW, I eventually gave up on using dehumidifiers unless I was trying to dry out wet carpet. They are a hassel, and they are essentially A/C units that doesn't give you cool air.

be sure that you all have the bucket fully installed against the bucket switch, to see if the switch is bad, remove the bucket and press in on the switch, if the compressor starts then the bucket is out of place if it does not start then the bucket switch needs inspection
