I have a GPX model S7694 Mini Shelf system The tape player and radio work. The 5 CD player and record player do NOT work. The turntable on the record player turns until I put a record on it!

I tried what the first expert suggested and it didn't work.

  • Anonymous Aug 21, 2010

What would be the next step - try and find a repair shop to work on it or? I inquired locally and no one works on those kinds of things anymore! ;-(

Thanks. Sounds good, but I am afraid a little beyond my capabilities!
I may try to buy a CD cleaning disc and see if that helps the CD player.

Possible that the optical head of the Cd player id dirty and so does not read the data on the CD. Open and clean the optical head as if the fault remains it is the failure of the optical head. Make sure that the loading is happening well and the optical head moves up to detect. confirm if the same type is available to attempt a change, Need to take precaution to do the work with care. Do not forget to remove the solder short to prevent static damage on the new head. Use of good tools is recommended.
Hold teh turntable to see if it stops then check if the turntable drive is belt driven or servo. failure of the belt can stop the table to stop on load. If not the servo is switching off the motor when the arm moves, could be the servo cutting off with the cut off end switch. Check servo drive to turntable.
Hope this tip helps.

The belt is slipping, causing to much tension on the drive system. I have not found replacement parts or a serive diagram for the shelf system.

@LEDSLED378: the system is not belt driven: it is gear driven. Facts are, GPX doesn't make a quality system.

Your Electric motors are not getting enough power from your power suppy go in and make sure all the wires are plugged securly into their connection. This should solve your problem.

  • Anonymous Aug 18, 2010

Unfortunately it did not work. The system is plugged into a power strip and I turned the power strip off and then on, plugged the power strip into a different outlet and changed the outlet on the power strip where the GPX was plugged in...still no luck. The other item on this power strip works, so it doesn't appear to be a bad power strip.

Had a GPX S7794 for years, now having trouble w/ turntable. Turns on by moving tone arm right, but if moved left to try to place it on a track towards the end of the record, turntable shuts off.

What happens is that a mechanical system under the turntable pushes on a micro switch to operate the motor. Clearly either the mechanical system has moved out of position or the switch has. You take the bottom off the turntable and see what happens when you move the arm.
