I have a 4 month old d40 that will pop up the flash but will not fire. When I look back at pictures it says that the flash was used but it never goes off. Help!
My d40 did the same thing and the guy at Wolf Camera said a sensor is bad. The falsh was up but every time I focused it tried to pop up the flash again but it would not fire.
I had 2 options. Send it off for 8 weeks to Nikon at a $240 minimum or buy a flash attachment for $100. I chose the $100 option.
If lightning bolt icon is blinking in viewfinder, flash is not ready. Either flash isnt popped up all the way or flash strobe tube is bad.

Try pressing the reset button to reset the settings that might solve it.
If not its possibly a fault flash, do you know where the reset button is? Its near the connectors, Il get you a picture.
