I am getting "CD Write Error" on my BR-1180 when attempting to burn a track. It is sporadic; sometimes I get a burn, but lately it has increased and I have now gone through 15 cd's and getting this message. Please help. (The unit is several years old) Thank you

If you are having CD write problems test to by doing a backup of the hard drive. If you are able to burn backup then your CD writer is working. That means you probably haven't mastered the song or songs you are trying to burn.
On most CD burning recorders you need to master the song in order to make it writeable to the CD. Then when you go to the CD. Or data menu it will bring up the songs that are ready to burn. Also there is a difference between CD/r. CD/r/rw and CD/rw make sure you CD burner is exactly the same as the CD

Also if you remove the hard drive from the recorder and install it in your PC you can extract or convert the files to wav and copy them to pc

SOURCE: No CD writer for Boss BR-1180

Hey mike yeah you can hook a regular cdr drive to the ribbon but the problem is if its not a slim it most likely wont fit inside the unit. Also the built in c.d r is way over rated mine has it and I still bounce it all onto my computer and then burn it from there. The one on the br-1180cd burns very quiet.

SOURCE: MY Boss br 1180 ,disk error

The Humming Is Normal When The Unit Is Not Properly Placed On Something That Is Level Make Sure You Find A Flat Part On Your Dresser Or Wherever It May Be. I May Add DO NOT EVER UNPLUG THE BR-1180 WHILE IT IS RUNNING Unless You Like Losing All Your Data. As For The Hard Drive Problem Call Roland They Are Extremely Helpful. It Is Unlikely That Your Whole Hard Drive Is Fried

SOURCE: What do I need to burn a cd from my pc with the br 1180

This Is real simple grab a cable that goes from rca jacks to a headphone jack then plug the rca jacks into the br-1180's audio out jack and then plug the other end into your computers mic port.
Download Audacity From www.Audacity.com and then use it to capture you audio and then you can burn that when complete.
Its real simple I do it all the time even though I have the br-1180cd the cd burner burns real quiet so I don't use it. The cable can be bought at radio shack, best buy, wal-mart and I have even seen them at 99 cent only stores.
If you have more question let me know This Is my main unit so I know a lot about it.
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

SOURCE: BR-1180 Cd will not burn CD's does it call for

Don't know if this unit is sensitive to the type of CD, but my Phillips recorders will ONLY burn the "Music CD's" (harder to find, more expensive). Read up on the difference of regular vs Music CD's. ALSO some recorders will not burn disks rated at lower or higher rates.

SOURCE: BR-1180 freezing & high-pitch ring

Check your power supply to the unit. Low voltage COULD cause this.

Also make sure a setting is not "looping" the audio back into itself.

I'm trying to burn a song to a CD-R using a Boss BR 1180 but every time it completes, there's no song on the CD. I record, bounce, record on 9/10, then try to write to CD and it never works.

"it never works"... this is NOT enough information for us. You are not telling us how the CD is tested. If you are testing it in a boombox type player, that is not a test. First thing is to look at the bottom of the CD to see if you can detect written tracks... with right lighting you can tell if it has been burned. REMEMBER that CD's, unlike phonograph records, are written from the middle outward. Many consumer players have trouble playing CD's that are written but not "finalized". If you CAN see written area (compare to unburned CD) then likely the burning is taking place, and the problem is the format is either not complete or incompatible with your player. Try reading the disk in your computer. Also you might want to visit the forums for the Boss/Roland workstations at VSPLANET.com.

BR-1600 unit will not burn discs

You might go over to VSplanet.com and look in the forums there. They deal a lot with Roland digital recording workstations.

Is the Boss Dr-5 compatable with the Boss BR-1180 mini studio?

Midi doesn't actually "make sound". If your trying to record the patterns you made on the DR-5 to the recorder you need to use an audio output(I don't remember if they are RCA or 1/4" on the DR-5.) The midi output would be used to"trigger sounds" in another device that has sounds built in, or you could also trigger sounds in a program that supports midi input.

MY Boss br 1180 ,disk error

before you go out and buy a new hd try intializing your system.
unfortunaly you will lose all saved info, but you will either way. this test may save you some money.
with your 1180 in the off position press and hold the track 5 button below the fader and the redo/undo button that is just to the left of the rotarty knob and below the power button. while holding these two buttons press the power button and continue to hold the track 5 button and the undo redo buttons untill the test menu is showing. its takes about 15- 30 sec. in the test menu rotate the value knob till you see 23 initialize HDD and press ok. this process may take up to 30 mins. if this doesnt fixya then contact roland for a replacement.
