First, I would not buy a "kit"; prices on these range from 40 to 80 dollars and most of the parts are not going to be needed.
See attached photo of convergence board in a set like yours.
You can look at the two chips in your set: either they are STK-392-110 OR -150--BOTH ARE THE SAME BUT THE 150 LASTS LONGER.
A FEW VERSIONS WILL USE STK-392-120---IT IS NOT INTERCHANGEABLE WITH THE 110 OR 150 CHIP.
In either case you can buy on EBAY (A seller I use) a pair of the chips for about 12 dollars.
About the only other thing that goes bad is there may be damaged resistors around one of the chips--usually just one but they are easy to spot and or test (see photos)
No matter how you add it up you can buy the parts you need for under 25 dollars including shipping.
If the photos and information I have provided helped you, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Testimonial: "Thank you! I think I will take your advice and just buy the chips. "
ON EBAY select advanced search and then search by seller.
sewsales55 is the one I use.
This is Suburban Electronics in Maryland, good quality and fast shipper. Average shipping is 3.00.
THEY HAVE ALSO A ONLINE CATALOG--I buy off EBAY as the prices are slightly lower.

Now I have the -110's in there, should I get the -110's, or your recommending the -150's?
Great advice, thanks! Can you advise a good way to ensure everything is discharged before taking the board out?

If you know exactly what you are doing buy the parts...but if your are not positive exactly what chips to use, what resistors get replaced, how to take the tv apart safely, how to re-converge it, etc - then I would strongly suggest buying a kit with the correct parts, instructions and support. The piece of mind is worth the amount. A vssat majority of people wing their repairs based on some posting on a forum - this can lead to a botched repair and damaged tv quickly. If you want a full kit I would suggest www.TvRepairKits.com
