-20C is about the right level for a three-star freezer.
From Google:
"
Domestic freezers have a star rating indicating the temperature they are designed to operate at. On the packaging of a frozen food there is guidance stating how long the food can be stored using freezers of a given star rating. As a guide here are some suggested maximum storage times at -18°C for a variety of foods."
Do you know what design temperature is for that freezer? Some are meant for 0 degrees others for -10 or 15. I would say you are trying to maintain -10 for a food freezer and trying to keep ice cream frozen. Ice cream freezers need to be colder than food freezers. I know it sounds dumb but look it up. Check the door gaskets to see that there is no leakage and the surrounding area should be no higher than 75 degrees, (otherwise it\'ll run all the time). Hope this helps and good luck.
3 star freezers are not storage freezers and will maintain frozen food for a short time only, They should reach -18c when closed but may come up in temperature quite rapidly when the door is opened. They are usually found as the cooling evaporator in fridges with freezer boxes in. Four star freezers are dedicated freezer storage space and will keep frozen food at the right temperature for some months.
Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.
Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.
If the unit is running continuously and not maintaining the temperature cold enough the system may have a leak. If it is NOT running continuously the problem could be in the temperature control.
not necessarily, is it maintaining temp? all food staying frozen? especially ice creams if stored in there. most newer freezers displace the heat generated while cooling the food through copper lines running through sides of unit, helps to cut down on air temp differences between the inside (0 degrees) and outside temp to prevent moisture and possible condensation causing premature rusting of unit
What is the temp in the freezer, sounds like temp is to low..no water should be coming out of freezer, sounds like may be defrosting
Need to check the temp to make sure its cold enough.. thats what that alarm is for
