NECCHI 534FB Sewing Machine
Just unpacked my sewing machine from cross country move. It's been a box for over a year. Used air can spray to clean off what little dust was on it and plugged it in. I can hear the motor operating but the needle does not move. I removed top and wheel plates to see if I could figure out what was wrong. I was able to get the hand wheel to operate the bobbin threader but I still could not manage to get the metal arm that drive the needle to move and when I try using the hand wheel to move the needle up and down manually it is very, very difficult. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The is usually an adjustment to tighten the belts by moving the motor. There are other ideas here, clutch, the knob in the handwheel or the screw in the needle bar..
Hm, I'm not able to locate a manual but may be able to offer some suggestions.
Remove the top thread from the machine.
AVOID OLD OR BARGAIN BIN THREAD!
Use the same thread in top and bobbin.
Be sure to use a brand new needle--needs to be compatible with the thread and fabric of the project..
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Set the top tension to the midway point.
Verify the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly and it turns the correct direction.
Pull the bobbin thread up through the fabric before taking the first stitch. It also helps to hold both thread tails in your left hand when taking the first stitches.
Test your machine and tweak the top tension until the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. (Increased top tension will pull the bobbin thread up. Decreased top tension will allow the bobbin thread to pull the top thread down.)
Is the bobbin wheel actually turning? If so, the bobbin winder is still activated. Have you tried turning the inner wheel on the handwheel to de-activate the bobbin (see video)?
Amber Necchi Machine Basics
If that doesn't help, you may need to take the machine for service.
make sure tat the thread is between the tension plates and not behind and jamming on the bolt
proper tension is a slight resistance when you pull the thread to thread the needle
Make sure the bobbin has a 3-5 inch thread tail
Then make sure the top thread has a 3-5 inch tail
Then hold the top thread tail with your fingers (away from the needle)
& use the hand wheel on the right hand side of the machine to slowly
Lower the needle in the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick
Up that way
Could be threaded wrong - check manual for proper threading
Needle could be bent - check and replace if needed
Needle plate could be damaged - see if any burrs are on it if so take to service dealer and have removed
Bobbin could be wound wrong - check manual
Bobbin could be bent - if so replace.
