If the noise is a high pitched whine or even a grinding sound you may have a bad color wheel.
These fail quite often in these sets although it is unusual for a lamp to be associated with it. Put old lamp back and see if same problem. (unless old lamp is shattered)
If it is the color wheel I can tell you how to look at it to see if shattered without taking the set completely apart.
See attached photo of typical color wheel.
If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

photo of color wheel:
From what you are saying it has to be the color wheel. Is there an easy way to check that?
Remove (with set unplugged) lamp door and lamp.
The color wheel faces the lamp front---it usually has a clear lens there--with a flashlight (you may need a small mirror also) look through the lens and at the wheel---if shattered you will see parts of the colored plastic missing or damaged.
Pretty easy and confirms wheel is bad. There are places like You Tube who have written and VIDEO instructions for replacing them. If you go that route let me know, there are a few pitfalls to avoid that are not in those instructions.

Maybe related, maybe not. With back panel open, when i turn on the TV, bulb tries to light up twice, making buzzing sound.
What could be the problem?
Set has a safe switch and unless defeated set will not work with back off.
Remove lamp (set not plugged in) and take a good look at color wheel (lamp faces it) to see if any pieces gone etc.
9 out of 10 times grinding, fan like sound, high pitched sound it is the color wheel.
