I HAVE A GE MODEL JGP336AEV2AA S/N MV722079Q BISQUE COLOR GE PROFILE COOKTOP. WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THE COOKTOP, OVER YEARS WE HAVE OWNED IT,HAS BEEN TAKING LONGER AND LONGER TO LIGHT. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE AN IGNITOR PROBLEM. ONCE WE GET ONE BURNER TO LIGHT (ANY BURNER), OTHER BURNER LIGHTS ALMOST INSTANTLY. EVEN THOUGH WE MAY HAVE THE GAS ON FOR 30 SECONDS OR LONGER, THERE IS NO SMELL OF GAS BEFORE LIGHTING . MY WIFE SAYS SOMETIMES IT SEMS TO HELPS IF WE TURN THE GAS UP TO HIGH FOR SHOT TIME THEN BACK TO THE IGNITE POSITION ON THE KNOB. ANY IDEA OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHAT A HOMEOWNER CAN DO TO CHECK AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM?

SOURCE: Ignitors are igniting on their own

they are not lighting they are sparking on there own right? No actual flame? if they are sparking on there own you need a new spark module.

SOURCE: Have a four burner gas GE Profile cooktop. How do

The igniter module is working fine. One of the switches (which are on each valve shaft) is stuck or shorted out. Pull a wire off each one at a time to determine which one is bad. Careful! 120 volts to each wire. Also, this can happen after you spill water into the valve area, if that sounds right, let it dry out.

SOURCE: why is ON light glowing with knobs on off

That is to tell you that your Infinity Switches are faulty and no good.

I own a GE Profile gas cooktop model number JGP940SEK1SS. The igniter continues to make a sparking sound when it is plugged in . We have to unplug the the stove to make it stop.

It could be one of the burner switches shot it out or spark module malfunctions.

GE gas cooktop

Wow, never heard of that,.... bleeding through glass? I checked the GE service web site and there are no Service Bulletins relating to anything like this. I guess if it were mine and I had that history with it, I'd try the new top, but removing the gasket and first putting a layer of foil duct tape on the underside of the new glass top, then use some new foam gasket material under the cooktop. Good luck. Please don't bother to rate this solution, as anything but a fixya will lower my rating. Thanks.
