The alarm beep which tells you to close refrigerator or freezer door now beeps even after either door has been closed. It beeps three times at approx twenty second intervals, then beeps continuously for about five minutes. Then only way to stop this is to press the button inside refigerator at back (near top), and only during the continual beeping. When I open fridge to do so, I notice that interior light is off. The light must reset after a while because it later comes back on. The beeping also happens randomly when fridge has been closed for hours. Usually it stays in the 'five sets of three beeps then contnuous beeping' cycle, but sometimes it stops before continuous beeping. In any case, it's incredibly annoying. The fridge is in a rental apartment and getting the landlord to attend to this has been impossible to if there is an easy solution I would so appreciate it. Thanks!

It looked like your model does NOT have an external ice/water control panel which has caused beeping problems on some models.
For your model I would try the following....
Door Alarm
The main cause of a beeping GE unit is an open refrigerator door. Some models are equipped with an internal door alarm, which trips when the door remains open for 3 minutes or longer.
One way to check this .... put your smartphone in the refrigerator on video mode and close the door. The light should go off with the door shut. If the video shows that the light stayed on when the door was closed ... then it reinforces that something is wrong with the switch/alarm. Repeat video for the freezer.
Door Seal
If beeping persists after the freezer or refrigerator door is closed, the door seals may be blocked or so dirty that the internal door alarm is tripped. The seals can be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Also, an item inside the refrigerator may be preventing the door from fully closing.
Cooling System
Reactivating the refrigerator's cooling system includes a beeping noise. When the refrigerator is off, the "Off/Off" light appears on the door display. When the "Adjust Freezer" and "Energy Saver" buttons are held down for approximately 3 seconds at the same time the beep sounds and the "Off/Off" indicator disappears. Hold the "Ice Off" and "Freezer" buttons to activate the cooling system inside of the fresh food compartment. A beep signals the system is activated. The beeping should stop after the cooling system turns on. If it fails to stop, try unplugging the power cord to reset the connection.
Power
The GE's internal door alarm can get stuck. Try unplugging the refrigerator for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in. If the beeping continues, the internal door alarm might be broken or defective. Contact the manufacturer or a technician for further assistance. this would reset the door alarm,which beepes when the door isn't properly closed.
also you should wait 24 hours between changing the temperature or it can mess up your fridge.!

Even though my door was closing fine it was beeping and saying "door ajar", so I first removed the switch. But that wasn't faulty and even with it out of the equation the beeping was there. I fiddled around some more but rather than rip everything apart, I popped out the electronics on the front and twisted off the little round black beeper in the circuit board.

Now I don't have a working door alarm. But otherwise: problem solved! ;)

Hi, the door switch might have had liquid poured on it freezing it, or the switch itself is bad.
Unplug your refrigerator from the ac outlet, and 0pen the door for approx. 5 minutes. Then plug it again, after you hear the beeping close the door.

If this is listed under the right model, then the only thing it could be is some models have a
door alarm,that will beep if the door is not closed. You could check and clean the gasket.
Or it the switch that tells the fridg that the door is closed. Check if there is a top door adjustment to bring the door closer to the fridge where the door hinge is. This might apply or push on the switch more.
