SHU43 Bosch Built-in dishwasher

Our dishwasher is approximately 5 years old and we are having trouble with two things. 1. When we start the dishwasher, we get a bad smell from the garbage disposal. It's especially bad when we haven't run it for a couple of days. 2. When the cycle is finished, the "sanitized" light is supposed to be on, but it isn't. A contractor removed and re-installed our dishwasher when we had new countertops installed about 3 years ago, but didn't start noticing the smell until about 1 year ago. Any clues or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like your dishwasher does not have an air gap. Newer dishwashers come with an air gap installed, but they can be taken out. A quick fix for this is to:

Check the drain line under the kitchen sink. The drain line is supposed to run from the bottom of the cabinet, and run as high in the cabinet as you can get, (up to the bottom of the counter top) then connect the drain. This is called an air gap, and helps keep a little water in the drain line, which will prevent sewer gases from entering your dishwasher, and garbage disposal.

Most problems with smells in Bosch Dishwashers come from failure to have the 20" rise in the drain line between the dishwasher and the drain as the installation manual requires.

My factory installer failed to do this. After looking at the installation manual, which shows a 20" rise, I used electrical ties to hold the drain line 20 inches above the floor. The smell which was causing us to run the rinse cycle every day to get rid of the smell has not been back in five days.

Try running citric acid (3 tablespoons) through.
You can get it from a drug store.
Or, run 1/2 cup vinegar through.
Do this in both the dish washer and the disposal.
After doing this try running some water into the disposal and then see if the next time you run the dishwasher if it still smells.
You could be having a problem with water not staying in the drain trap under your sink that is why if you run water and fill the trap, then you will find out if it was the dry trap that caused the smell from sewer gases backing up into the house trough the garbage disposal.

Bosch dishwasher dispencer will not close

Sounds like the actual dispencer mechanisum is worn or faulty either the latch or the catch you can usualy buy the whole unit to replace this, all this does is keeps the tablet in during the initial pre wash then adds the tablet during the wash after 5 mins open the door and drop the tablet in it will still work the same and save cost
