I attempted a factory restore from the OS, then from the hardrive and both times this got this error message: "Restore failed - reason 0x00000017 Click OK to restart the computer" I then click OK and the system restarts but doesn't go any further than the Windows XP screen. I left it overnight and it was still on that screen in the morning.

I have followed the previous advice, to no avail.

Hi,

STEP 1:

Initially try a power drain

- Turn off the compter
-Disconnect the power cord and other connected cables from back.
-Press and hold the Power button for 30 Second
-Connect the cables and try booting.

If Power drain fails; you have to Repair installation. Go to step 2.

STEP 2:

Restore failure has corrupted your Operating System (OS) files. We need to run a repair installation with the Operating system disc to fix the corrupted files. Repair Installation - This process will not delete the data, it just repairs the OS files.

Steps to perform repair installation:

Insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Riztech

Can I download a windows XP setup disk and use the product keey on the machine? It did not come with disks.

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

Yes, you may download and use the existing key. There is another way to work around. We need to figure out if this machine came with inbuilt recovery partition.

If it has an inbuilt recovery partition, we can run repair without setup disc.

To check if computer has an recovery partition, the moment you boot the machine; keep tapping the F8 key. You will see a screen says "Windows Advanced Option".

There you need to check any option; please post the options that you see.

    Regards,
    Riztech

These are the options I have:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot logging
    Enable VGA Mode
    Last Known Good Configuration
Directory Services REstore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debugging Mode
Disable Auto Restart on system failure

    Start windows normally
    reboot
    return to OS choices menu

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

You don't have an Recovery partition; try entering SAFE MODE and see it XP Loads. Or else we need to run repair installation. We dont have any other choice.

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

When I try to enter safe mode and error message comes up: "the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again." If I click OK it then goes to the same XP screen that it stalls at every time... Where can I download an xP repair disk from??

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

You cannot download legal Windows setup CD, You may ask you friends or some one. In internet there are many illegak versions of XP setup downloads, but in Fixya we do not recommend it.

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

Well that does not help me much!

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2010

Windows XP files are corrupted and will never boot untill it repaired. This is the only option to repair the Operating system. You have get a XP Setuo disc to fix this problem.

Hi! Please try this. Remove the battery of the pc and unplug the pc from power source then press hold the power button for 10secs. this should drain excess power and will reset the system. Put the battery in again then turn on the pc and see how it goes. You should to this as a first course of action and please write back on the progress. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Hi! if still no luck on this I believe that its a hard drive problem. You will need to reformat the hard drive for programs may have crashed.

Have re3stored acer aspire netbook to factory settings but restore does not complete due to error=0x3, how can i fix?

Probably means your factory restore is no good because it is created from a image that is either on cd's or the hard drive. Most times the restore does not work unless it is put on the hard drive by the manufacturer.

Whenever i put on my hp mini,it says smart disk error. whenever i try restoring back to factory settings, it freezes up when it gets to 2 percent. after waiting a while it says the system fails to restore,...

Hi there,
Smart Disk Error has something to do with the Hard drive of your computer. I think the reason it's showing the message is that your Hard drive is about to fail. If restoring it to factory settings freezes on the same point every time chances are that part of the hard where the data is stored is busted (unreadable) better do what it says to contact hp so that they can conduct hardware diagnostics on your hard drive. Better yet, have it replaced if it's still under warranty.
Hope this helps!

I have tried to restore my computer and keep getting the message of failed reason Oxf0000005.

This is a message that is given with a blue screen? If so then it is a Common error message for Missing NTLDR. Reinstall OS again.
What version of Windows and how far into the Restore are you getting to when you get this issue?
Also, it could be an issue with the restore image/files that you are using that is causing the problem.

Hi...what to do when restore failed! reason 0xf0000006?

I would try it again, but my gut feeling is that you have a hardware issue. Most likely a bad hard drive.

Dell b130 internal system restoration failed

Incase you don't have any thing important on the computer try a factory restore. This will wipe out everthing and make the cmputer like new. To start it power off the laptop. Power it on and hold down ctrl and tap f11 severl times at the Dell logo screen. Try this q couple of times as it may not work the first time. If this does nothing you'll need the os cd (xp cd) tO repair or reinstall windows.

My 0xc000000c "Restore Failed" prompt seemed to be the result of disk surface damage on the restore disk. After burning the restore disk to a new disk, the restore proceeded normally. Try making a copy of the original restore disk to a known good blank disk.

Restore Hardrive to Factory Settings, Missing Hidden Partition

Yes Claudia you are right. When you wiped the hard drive you deleted the partition that contained the systen restore (factory restore). You will have to purchase a new copy of Vista. It will not contain all of the other programs that came with your computer originally.
Before you installed Windows 7 it clearly states that you have to back up your system before you install it on your hard drive.
Why didn,t you keeep windows 7, if I may ask? If you made a copy of it (which you had to do when you insatlled it) reinstall it and use it. Microsoft will let you purchase it for $50.00, which is a lot less that what it will cost you to purcase Vista Home Premium.

Acer 4720Z lost vista os

Most likely the hard drive went out, do you hear a clicking noise or loud ticking coming from the laptop?

Does it give you any kind of message like " NTLDR missing."?

Let me know.

Notebook problem

obviously a driver error, you may have the drivers on another partition on your hardrive ,in a restore folder maybe, Acer normally have drivers and programme installations somewhere on the hardrive, so you can restore to it's original factory setup. If you do not an option would be to simply go to Acer website and download them. Only other option is to purchase an external USB powered DVD/CD drive if it's not working, although if you haven't got a restore cd it's irrelevant.
