On the HP Pavilion DV2000, the real issue is caused by an ill fitting heatsink/fan combo. This assembly fits across the CPU and the video chip. As it does NOT sit properly on the video chip, this IC overheats and melts the solder that holds it to the motherboard, thereby opening the circuit, resulting in the same condition that happens when you unplug your video card on a desktop computer. To repair this is not hard to understand BUT requires quite a bit of physical skill as you need to resolder the micro traces on this surface mount device, then using a copper shim of an appropriate thickness (we are talking foil thin here) and GOOD heat sink compound on both sides of the copper shim, not the **** heat transfer pads HP uses, between the video chip and the heat sink and again, Good heat sink compound (think artic silver or better, this is CRITICAL) on the cpu, reassemble. THEN you need to go to HP and get the bios update and flash the bios. This is extremely important! the update keeps the cooling fan on full speed at all times preventing heat buildup which was the main cause of the failure to begin with. The copper foil I've successfully used is .0003" thick and a royal pain in the **** to find but is generally available from hobby shops on special order. Do NOT use aluminum foil! It will tend to oxidize after time and create a heat barrier and is too thick!

Ok, so a friend was having some problems with there laptop and I found the problem was the bios needed to be undated and was not. That really messed it up apparently and had many annoying side effects on the computer. If you have an HP and you are having this problem you may want to look at the following link to see if you can get yours fixed for free. This solved my problem hope it solves yours.

I am a tech and I am working on this one, I beleave the problem is on the Motherboard connection to the Bios meaning that I think the connection is getting corroided and not making a good connection but this is a gues after reading all the blogs, I have flashed the bios, replaced the ram, installed a new battery, did the f9 and f10 bios reset and unpluged everything and pluged it back in and still it only boots 1 out of five times. And look it can't be the ram connection because if it was the computer would fail in the OS and the bios is what tells the computer to function so if it won't boot at all it is ether a bios issue or a MB issue end of story what stinks is this is a manufacturering problem and should have been recalled by hp **** instead they will fix it for $289.00 witch is the price of a new MB + install and they won't tell you what the actual problem is! some won should sue.

I CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BY CHANGEIN OF VGA CHIP AND IT WILL COST 600DHS ONLY OTHER WISE COMPANY HP IS CHANGING THE MAINBOARD

    Scott Schoemann Jan 13, 2015

there is no "chip" to change since HP does not sell them, and the original vga chip also has integrated I/O fuctions that control the throughtput of the hard drive and cd/dvd... this joker is simply resolderting the original chip

The solution I found that worked is:

(BLACK SCREEN ALL LIGHTS BLUE)

Press start up button for five seconds (ALL LIGHTS GO OUT)

Press start up button with single quick touch (ALL LIGHTS COME ON)

You will get BOOT UP screen

Press F10 (probably will say please wait)

BIOS screen comes up

Press F9 and YES (accept)

Press F10 and Yes (accept)

Should start up PC automatically

My HP Pavilion dv2000 turns on, but screen is black

If the laptop appears to boot up but the LCD screen is black, then the problem is a back-light fault caused by either a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to determine the fault and fix :-

Hp pavilion dv2000 lights switch on but boot or

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

1) Remove ALL wires and then press and hold the power button in for approx 20 seconds

2) Plug everything back in and then rerty

This may sort the issue out however from what you are descrbing, if there is no boot or display it is highly likely the motherboard and/or the CPU is faulty

I would recommend that you book the PC into a reputable PC repair shop if the above does not work

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Got a HP DV2000 boot then freezes

Hi,
It seems that the problem is with the display chipset ( assuming its with Nvidia chipset model).
If you are not a technical person, take out the mother board and do a reflow of the chipset with a blower or else take it to a qualified service person or authorised service center.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
