HP desktop monitor problem

My HP desktop monitor will come one with a green light, and 1 or 2 seconds later it turns yellow and goes off, nothing seems to keep my monitor on, I have tried everything, why do you think the monitor does not stay on?

    I have the identical same problem . My Gateway monitor is FPD 1760 color what can I do?

    I tried to buy a chord but that is not possible.

    Same problem. Tried another monitor. No good. There are 3 buttons on the front of my monitor besides the power button. If I hold the button all the way to the left, the yellow light turns green and a dial with several different symbols comes on the screen. Also, the screen changes colors from red to green to blue to white continually.

Hi try this ,,,

  1. Ensure the video cable is connected (and connected to the correct video port).
  2. Turn off the monitor using the monitor's power button and then restart the monitor.
  3. Cycle the power on the monitor as follows:
  4. Turn off the monitor. The power light on the monitor should be off. Leave the computer turned on.
  5. Unplug the power cord.
  6. Wait 5 seconds.
  7. Plug in the power cord.
  8. Press the power button on the monitor to turn on the monitor. One of two things happens:
    1. The image from the computer displays on the monitor and you can use the computer again. This indicates that the monitor was unable to detect that the computer had awakened from suspend mode. Turn the monitor off when it is not being used or disable suspend mode. For some computers, updating the BIOS corrects these types of suspend problems.
    2. The power light on the monitor comes on but the screen displays one of the messages again. The monitor is not receiving a video signal from the computer that it can detect and use. Continue using these steps to adjust the Windows display resolution to the Monitor's native (default) resolution
    3. Connect the monitor to another computer that you know is working to determine if the monitor should be serviced or replaced:
      • If the monitor displays an image from another computer, you know that the monitor works. Troubleshoot the video connection and graphics adapter on the computer.
      • If the monitor remain blank when connected to another computer, the monitor signal processing hardware may be bad. The monitor should be repaired or replaced.

It should make one beep. That means it passed the self-test.
If there is nothing on the monitor (is the monitor light green or yellow?)
then the monitor is bad.
I suggest you try another monitor to be sure. Borrow one from a friend.

Monitor light: green yellow green yellow etc.
Cycling of the power LED (about once per second) is typical of a switchmode PSU shutting down and trying to restart. Often this is accompanied by a tick each time, from the main switcher transformer.

Assuming you can open the monitor up (with the power OFF of course) check all the capacitors in the PSU for signs of leakage or bulging. Ideally you would check them with an ESR meter, but they are usually visibly failed when the monitor acts like this.

Replace any defective caps found and try it again while you have the case off, keeping your fingers well out of the way.

Sharp light turns green thern turns yellow screen goes black
it is going into sleep mode, good luck with this.... i am currently asking how to get my hard drive to quite putting my monitor into sleep mode.

although it hasn't worked for me because my screen stays black, one of the options given to me is to try to start in safe mode and then adjust your settings to "never" on the energy/sleep/hibernate mode

some one else suggested that i remove and reseat the video card

hopefully one of those will work for you

LCD monitor goes blank
It appears that the display resolution set in your display properties is out of the range that the LCD can display.

Try this.

Boot to the ENABLE VGA MODE by pressing F8 to get the Windows Boot Menu. If you can get to the desktop, then go to display properties, and see if you can change the resolution to higher settings and maintain video. (If the video blanks out, then it should revert to the previous setting in 15 seconds)

turn on monitor first then the hp if all is well just remember sequance if not then check cable to monitor from hp if it can be replaced then replace cable but check hp with another monitor first just incase the monitor is gone.

I would fathom a guess that the motherboard has been damaged, if it is the PS then you can see by taking it into a service center to have the output checked 3 v 5 v 12 volt good luck.

HP desktop monitor problems
Motherboard is detecting an error. 1st and most likely to test is power supply to see if it is weak. I did work on one last month of about this model and the bracket for one of the bridge chips broke. You might look inside to see if it's still securely attached. It will be the heat sink below the processor. Keep me posted - Scotty

Monitor goes blank less than a second after turning on.
Sounds like either there is a bad connection from the computer to the monitor, or the monitor has a faulty power regulator, causing the monitor to overheat prematurely, and shut off.
