When faxing should the paper be face up or face down?

According to the manual, the documents should be placed face down in the auto document feeder.
Here's a link to the manual that I spoke about:

Hope this helps!

Line appears on scans and faxes

Do you use the document feeder when faxing and scanning? If so, the line is likely some paper dust, white-out, or other dirt on the thin piece of glass to the left of the main platen glass. Wipe that glass strip with a lint-free cloth, and if that doesn't work try using a little bit of alcohol.

If the line persists, or it occurs when you don't use the document feeder, it's probably dust somewhere in the optical portion of the unit, underneath the glass. If you want to take it apart, you can blow some compressed air around down there to scatter the dust or try wiping down the mirrors with a lint-free cloth.

I have my fax machine hooked up through a magic jack. how do i change fax speed?

I contacted the folks at MagicJack today and for faxes they confirm your findings. They suggest the following: We do not officially support using faxing with MagicJack. Please try the following steps to use MagicJack with your fax (contact your fax vendor for details):
- turn off error correction on your fax machine or program
- set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available
- increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work

The change must come through your fax machine, not the MJ.

HERE is a link to the manual for your fax machine.

If you are having problems sending or
receiving a fax due to possible interference
on the phone line, we recommend that you
adjust the Equalization for compatibility to
reduce the modem speed for fax operations.
a Press Menu, 2, 0, 2.
b Press a or b to choose Normal (or
Basic).
Basic reduces the modem speed to
9600 bps. Unless interference is a
recurring problem on your phone
line, you may prefer to use it only
when needed.
Normal sets the modem speed at
14400 bps. (Default)
Press OK.
c Press Stop/Exit.
Note
When you change the compatibility to
Basic, the ECM feature is only available
for color fax sending.

There are only 2 speed settings. Since the MJ does not support faxing, if the slower 9600 bps does not work, you will be unable to fax with the MJ.

Wont accept faxes

Sounds silly, but since you moved have you updated your phone number with those who are faxing? Are you sure the phone line is plugged into the correct jack? Have you tried calling the number yourself? Does it ring? Have you tried manually answering? Do you have DSL- are you using the proper filter??

plz download the manual here:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/model_top/colormfc/mfc3360c_all.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc3360c_all

BTW: Have a look at the faq, too.

As far as i remember this type of fax-machine the handling procedure is as follows:
press FAX put the letter to be send into the paper feeder which should pull it through. When done display demands tel/fax nr. which has to be set. press start (blue button). fax should be connected and send the message.
