I was mowing with my new Black & Decker electric corded mower and I hit a metal stake that was covered by grass and I did not see. Now my mower will not start. It just makes a humming sound. What do I do?

I have had that happen myself a few days ago.

Take it to a Black & Decker dealer service center and get a full service repair for less than $80. I have mine in the shop right now for that service.

I have a Black & Decker mower that I have used for 14 years. They are replacing the motor, the blade and wheels, as well as anything else that might be needed to put it back in top condition. The Black & Decker electric mower is my best yard tool investment. I am planning to upgrade to a cordless CMM 1200 model in the near future.

Mower is electric. cord is fine. was mowing great, had it on highest blade level due to high grass. just quit completely. blade and chute are not clogged. there is power to mower.

If you were cutting long grass it sounds like you may have burnt the motor out. It may have over heated. they are not made to cut long grass. You don't say whether the motor runs but not the blades if this is the case you may have sheared the shear pin in the blade assembly.

I tried to mow the grass even though it rained this am. our grass was really high and i saw a little smoke come out of the lawnmower. is that because the grass was still a little wet or the grass was...

Nope. If the grass is too high, knock it down to size with a weedeater first. These electric mowers cannot handle the tall, high stuff. If you do, you will surely burn it up.

Black & decker electric mower

We took the shell off and where amazed of how much grass got into the shell area. You can try that first. You can clean the electrical coil area with a specialized cleaner, however an old electrician once told me when a motor looses power to check the carbon tips that go to the coil and replace if damaged. good luck.
