I had the same problem and then by chance I got it in focus and then held the shutter down half way and that seemed to work. I also noted that you have to be 4 inches away when using the macro and that was important any closer and it is blurry. I use a tripod or I am very steady when I use the supermacro

I cannot get the camera to focus any image except

You're apparently in either Macro or SuperMacro mode. Press the Macro button (left on the four-way controller, marked with a blooming flower) repeatedly to cycle through the modes.

How macro and supermacro facility can be achieved

Hi there,
The camera has a Macro mode as well as Super Macro mode, in which it can focus as close as 0 inches (zero inches).

Focus Range:

Normal: 50 cm (1.6 ft.) - infinity (W)/ 90 cm (3.0 ft.) - infinity (T)
Macro: 10 - 50 cm (3.9 in. to 1.6 ft.)
Super Macro: 0 - 10 cm ( 0 to 3.9 in.)

hope it help a little, i would be glad to assist you more :) you can just ask me, have a nice day.

Focus problems

There are two likely reasons for the blurry pictures. One possibility is, as you surmised, a slow shutter speed. Try mounting the camera on a tripod or other stable support. You might also try turning on the flash.

The other reason is focus, or lack thereof. You didn't specify what cameras you have, but if they're Coolpixes, they most likely have a close-up or macro mode that will allow the lens to focus closer. If you're using a DSLR, you will need some other way to focus closer. Macro lenses, extension tubes, and close-up filters are three ways of achieving this.

How to take Supermacro pix?

Super Macro will not work in "auto" mode. If you put it in "P" mode (and possibly the other manual modes) and then press the "macro" (little flower looking think) button to the left of the lens under "MF" (manual focus). It will display "hold for super macro" on the screen.

All of my close ups are blurry!

There should be a macro setting on your camera. It's usually indicated by a flower symbol. If you're doing any close up photography, macro should be enabled.

I can't get my Powershot S5 to go into Super Macro mode - Help!

Hi,
There seem to be two stipulations for getting into super macro mode,
First you must be in scn ("A" or "S" mode's only) and "movie", "P", "TV", "AV" or "M" modes only.
Secondly the zoom Lens must be all the way out.. set at the widest angle.

Best of luck

CANNON S50IS

Guest is quite right - use the macro button on left hand side of lens (holding camera pointing at subject) Press once for "macro" which focuses from 10cm away. If you hold this button in for about 2 seconds, it puts your camera into "supermacro" mode, which gives focus from right up against the lens! (need backlighting for this close!) Supermacro will not work in Auto and Sport mode. Best is to use "AV" or "TV"

As far as viewing your pics goes - rotate the mode lever (You turn this anti-clockwise to turn ON) clockwise and you will see the most recent pic on your LCD screen. Use the left and right direction on the omni selector to naviagate through your pics.

Its a good idea to download the advanced manual onto your pc from the dic supplied. Its an adobe document and very user-friendly.

I hope this helps you.... :)

Close up pics W/clarity

Set the camera for the "macro" setting. This is a close focus setting. Turn the camera power on. Press the "flower/mountain" side of the command dial on the back of the camera. You should get two icons on the display...one is a mountain, the other is a flower (macro setting). Use the command dial to jump to the macro setting. You should get a large confirmation icon to tell you that the macro setting is activated. Now you will be able to get close, real close. Like 2 inches close! Good luck.
