Yes there is a battery at the base of the front column. It is a 6v 2.5Ah Lead battery. The battery I have is a Cyclon 0819-1006. This is 6v, 2.5Ah. I have replaced mine. I would suggest swapping the consoles to see if the problem follows. If this does not help you figure it out, you are more than likely looking at a wiring issue.
i recommend to replace the control board. This is very critical matter for the electronic machine. see the diagram attached, How the controller motor hast the 80 of control of machine. go to www.fitnessrepairparts.com and get it
The Lifefitness Lifesyscle 9500HR battery location is at in the lower portion of the recumbent bike.
This is a 1/2 to one hour task for most do it yourself'er.
In order to gain access to the battery compartment,you has to remove the pedals.
The center cover has to be remove.
The 6V battery will be within 12" from the pedals.

This unit takes a special 6 volt battery. The battery is in one of two places. First place to look is under the unit. If you lay the bike over on its side there is an opening in the covers. If the battery is not there then you will need to take one of the side covers off. When you get the side off you cannot miss it. The battery is black with three cylinders. You can get the battery from sportsmith.net.
