Frigidaire model gstf1670as, when I turned it on, heard a ratcheting sound, and a puff of smoke came out of the detergent dispenser drawer. I shut it down but now I can't open the door to get my clothes out.

Refer to your manual regarding the dispenser tray. You could try using a tooth brush to clean out dry detergent, which could be blocking the flow of water. You can take out tray to clean, ref manual.

the problem is quite easy. There are 2 valves on top of the dispenser box. When disconnected from power source please check whether the connections are secured. Sometimes the valve connections shake lose during transport or opperation. Also check the dispens drawer for clogging . This should be fixed easily. If you leave the top cover off and plug the machine in and start opperation there should be 120V on the valve connectors. If there is and water stil does not come out the valve is faulty and you have to order a new one.

I was having this problem. I thought the door catch was damaged but looked it up online and saw that it was intact. I was just about to call the repairman when I took another look and found that the rubber seal around the door was not properly seated. Duh! Almost cost me $100+ and lots of humiliation.

I use 2 Tablespoons of Liquid Detergent and a 1/2 to 3/4 scoop of Oxyclean and I have had good results in my Front Loader. Clothes come out very clean and there is no residue on the inside of my washer.
