1. To access boot options on this netbook press 0 on startup. This gives options to start from usb drive or external cd.
2. If you have an external cdrom, then use this with any xp home cd to attempt repair/ repair installation/ re-installation.
3. unetbootin allows you to create a bootable usb from a cd image (or you could use it to make yourself a linux netbook).

the PATA Canard is a lie

some lame-ish PCs the bios is daft and reports
IDE or PATA errors and there is no such thing
this is called vistagle lies. seen it for years after 2001 but 2008 is lazy BIOS builders.

Dell Mini 910 Laptop: Removed all my folders, pictures, videos, everything & it still only has 532kb of free space! It won't download updates as it say's insufficient space!

Hi!

As described in the title, your DELL Mini has a very small capacity SSD (8 GB Solid state drive).
For windows operating systems toghether with some usual applications like MS Office, messengers, adobe reader and flash player etc. it is simply not enough.
Of course, installing a larger SSD instead of your 8GB one will solve the issue, but I think it's not what you expect for an answer.
That's why I try to suggest an alternative way:
Please go to CONTROL PANNEL, ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS (in WIndows XP, in Windows 7 it is called PROGRAMS AND FEATURES).
In the displayed list please uninstall any programs you do not really need. Also, in the left side pannel there is an option called add/remove windows components: here you can uninstall other applications e.g the games contained in the windows installation like solitaire.
After doing so, you will gain some free space on your SSD.

Please let me know if it worked,

Good luck!

How to reinstall <windows

If the ntoskrnl.exe file is corrupt or missing this can also generate the error. To restore this file follow the below steps.

1.Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD. Note: If you have a recovery CD or a restore CD and not a Microsoft Windows XP CD it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue.
2.Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key.
3.In the Microsoft Windows XP setup menu press the R key to enter the recovery console.
4.Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password.
5.Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32
6.You will then be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file type Y and press enter to overwrite the file.
7.Type exit to reboot the computer.

Comunication software component are missing keeps

For most of my customers, this software is completely useless. If this is the case for you, I would recommend removing it from the list of startup items.

To do this:

1. on xp, click start, run, and type msconfig
on vista or windows 7, click start and type msconfig in the search box, clicking alow when the UAC window appears.
2. click on the startup tab
3. Locate the Dell communication program on the list (or all dell programs as I normally do) and uncheck the box
4. click Apply, then click done. The computer will prompt for restart.
5. After restarting on XP, a window will appear. Click the check box and click close.

Best of luck;
