The auto starters on the grill are no longer working. We changed the batteries, but the grill will only start using a gas hand starter.

Replace the piezo electric starter and make sure it is aligned with the burner.

check this before you check starter! clean battery cables and battery post first . auto parts stores sell wire brushes for cleaning battery post. are you sure battery is good? auto parts stores will check your battery for free if you take it to them. first they will charge battery so they will know it is charged . most auto parts stores will check your starter for free if you take it to them =(load test battery) if you take starter off clean the wires to starter with sand paper = preventive maintance.
NOTE if your auto would start , the auto parts stores could check your starter and battery on your auto. for FREE. if they find bad parts , you will probely buy the new parts from them? the ground wire to the frame could be cleaned also. good luck!

Regulator. Tanks were non burped... Regulator stuck. Turn off tank slow. disconnect. Turn burners on. Tap the regulator with a piece of metal. Turn burners off. Connect tank. Since it was washed out electric starter dont work. Turn burners on. Then you will hear it. Gas. Take lighter and start. Big startup. The hair on your hand burned off wash your hands. Then get the meats! Easy as Cake

Have you checked your gas pump relay fuse or the pump itself? 70 % sure its one of those.

The ticking noise doesn't mean your getting spark. Open the grill and look inside (gas off) and look for a spark when you push the starter. There should be a spark gap, if its not sparking look for a piece of food or fat stuck between the burners and the starter probe.

Turn the head lights on , then get someone to turn the ignition switch to the start position , whilst you look at the headlights . When the ignition is switched to the start position and if the headlights go off then replace your battery , on the other hand if the headlights go dim you have a starter motor problem . Before you do this test make sure your battery is fully charged and the battery terminals are clean .

Change the regulator and see if that is it you can get one at Home Depot!

It could be a spiderweb in the orfice or a bad valve

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you.
