Hello,

The water filter status light or indicator, present on some models, will help you know when to change your water filter. The light, or indicator, is located either on the temperature control panel in the refrigerator compartment or on the dispenser control panel on the freezer door.

The indicator will be one of two styles.

If the indicator is a light or series of lights, the light will change from green to yellow. This tells you that it is almost time to change the filter. It is recommended that you replace the filter when the status light changes to red or when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases.
If the indicator resembles a stack of bars, the bar height will decrease and the status display will change from "Good" to "Order." This tells you that it is almost time to change the filter. Replace the water filter cartridge when the water filter status display changes to "Replace" or when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases.
If a filter status light/indicator is not present, the filter should be changed at least once every 6 months. Your filter may need to be replaced more frequently depending on your usage and water quality.

If the water flow to the water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases before 6 months have passed, you may need to replace the water filter cartridge more often. Decreased water flow is a sign that the filter is clogged and needs to be replaced.

If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, remove the filter so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.

The filter status display will help you know when to change your
water filter. When the display reads 10%, order a new filter. It is
recommended that you replace the filter when the display reads 10% OR when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases.

The filter should be replaced at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage.

Step 2
Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.

Step 3
Pull the filter straight out.

Step 4

Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.

Step 5
Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and
turn the cap until it snaps into place.

Step 6
Remove the protective covers from the O-rings. Be sure the O-rings are still in place after the covers are removed.

Step 7
Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop back out when the filter is fully engaged.

Step 8
Flush the water system. Use a sturdy cup or glass. Depress and hold the
water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat this process until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue depressing and releasing the dispenser lever. Hold down for 5 seconds and then release for 5 seconds. Do this on/off process for about 2 minutes. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing

Hope this helpout in changing the water filter......

SOURCE: change water filter and water won't dispense

Was water dispensing before filter was replaced? If it was then maybe filter needs to be purged to get air out of line. Only 3 other issues it could be. 1. water valve coil on back of fridge is bad. 2. Water reservoir is frozen up behind shelves in freezer section. 3. Your microswitch behind dispensor cover isnt activating water valve coil. Not much else could be the problem. Start with the valve

SOURCE: me GE Profile PSC23M Side by side ice maker quit

It sounds like you just have a leak at the back. Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser and watch on the back for where the water may be leaking before it gets up to the ice maker.

SOURCE: wANT TO REPLACE WATER FILTER ON wHIRLPOOL SIDE BY

I just went to another site that offered FREE Whirlpool appliance manuals and looked it up myself. I cut and pasted the information from the manual to a Word.doc so I could edit out unwanted information and enlarge the type as my older sister is the one having to read it.
I also found a discount supplier of water filters to compare prices and chose one from Ebay (of course).
I saved the pdf format manual to my pc for future reference.- alldarc

SOURCE: side by side refrig - ice maker and water don't

Removing a water filter from the inside of your Frigidaire brand refrigerator:

Removing and replacing a water filter - upper right hand corner inside location

Filters situated up front in the refrigerator compartment of Frigidaire-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the door of the refrigerator compartment of your Frigidaire brand side-by-side refrigerator. The filter is located in the upper right hand corner. It has a push button for quick release just to the right of the filter.

  2. Locate the icemaker On/Off power switch and place it in the OFF (o) position.

  3. Push in on the filter release button and pull the filter all the way out to remove it. Remove new filter from its packaging and remove the protective plastic caps. Insert the new filter in the same manner it was removed. Make sure to push in firmly on the filter until you hear the filter cartridge click in place.

  4. Return the icemaker's power switch to the On (l) position.

  5. Condition the filter by running water through the dispenser for about three minutes. This will flush the filter of all fine carbon particles.

  6. In some models, you will have to reset the filter status light. It is located on the ice and water dispenser control panel. Push in on it for ten to fifteen seconds until the green, red, and amber lights flash. If your refrigerator model does not have a filter status light, you should make a note on a calendar, or place a month sticker on your filter to remind you to replace the filter again in six month's time.

Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator or shut off the water supply when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

My water preasure in door is terrible takes forever to fill glass

Either replace the water filter or replace the water valve ( located behind the refrig where the wall water line connects to ) or , install the water filter bypass piece which came with the refrig . ( This will tell you if the filter needs replaced ) .

Our water dispenser on our GE side by side refrigerator quit working. I changed the filter. No results.

At the bottom of the freezer door ( remove the kick plate , 1 screw on each side ) , there will be a water line . Follow this line , about 6 " to a connector . Push in on the white ring and pull out the line , at the same time . Activate the water dispensor pad and see if water flows from the line under the refrig . If it does , then the line in the door is frozen . Either raise the freezer temp for several days , so the line in the door will thaw , or , I have heard using an air tank will blow the ice out of the line in the door . If no water comes from the line under the refrig , while activating the pad , then replace the water valve , behind the refrig , the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig .
If the water line in door is frozen , GE has a heater kit , pt # WR49X10173 , for this particular problem . It comes , with installation instructions .

The water flow on my side by side, water & ice dispenser in the freezer door, keeps decreasing. Model GSS25UFPD CC. Is there some way to increase the water flow?

I would install the filter bypass ( the piece which came with the refrig ) to see if that will improve the water outflow . If so , then replace the filter . If not , you will need to replace the water valve . Pt # WR57X10032 . This part runs about $ 40 , and is the part that the wall water line connects to on the back of the refrig .

I have a GE side by side stainless steel refrig. the water will not dispense. How can I fix it?

Is there water to the water valve in the rear of the fridge? If yes, replace the water filter if older than 6 months or if you're on a well. You may need an inline water filter behind your fridge in addition to the one in the fridge to protect the water valve. If no, turn on the water. If you're making ice but no water dispense and you have a new water filter. Replace the water valve.

Ge Profile bottom freezer, french door refrig, water filter

Just replace GE's filter with a standard inline filter that hooks to 1/4" water line tubing. Sounds like their filter has no flow rate either...
