Have you considered NOT connecting the camera to the computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

Hi, Are you getting a "USB device not recognized" error whenever you plug in a USB mouse, keyboard, or other USB device? I love USB and have 5 ports on my computer so that I can connect my mouse, keyboard, camera, phone, and printer to it all at once!

However, last weekend, my computer stopped recognizing my USB devices! The strange thing about it was that the USB ports were not bad because all of my devices were still getting power to them. I could still charge my cell phone without a problem!

usb device not recognized

So I started with the normal fixing methods, including uninstalling the drivers for my devices and reinstalling them. That didn't work! Next I tried System Restore thinking that maybe I had installed something and it caused a conflict with the USB system drivers. That didn't work!

I read online that in order to fix this problem I should go to Device Manager and uninstall all of the devices under USB Controllers. Restarted the computer, reinstalled the USB drivers, but the problem STILL did not go away!

You may also see in Device Manager that the device shows up as an "Unknown Device".

unknown usb device

So how did I finally fix the problem? Well, apparently it's a super simple solution! No need to edit the registry, uninstall drivers, or anything of that sort.

Simply UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. Yes that's it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don't really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power.

First to explain, the motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the USB ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be "rebooted" also because something can go wrong, i.e. all your USB ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your USB ports should be back to recognizing all devices!

So first turn off your computer using Shut Down or pressing the power button and then UNPLUG it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in.

Hope this helps someone fix that pesky "USB device not recognized" Windows error!

Failure in the camera's USB ports

Finally I solved it!!!!
Situation: My Computer (MAC And PC) wasn't recognizing the FLIP ULTRA HD, because it has a corrupted file, but couldn't format because there was no communication between camera and computer

Solution:
1. Charge your batteries until get the FULLY CHARGED icon (Green Battery)
2. then remove the batteries without unplugging the USB 3. Voila...computer recognize the USB
4. Format the Camcorder with the Following tutorial: http://www6.nohold.net/CiscoFlip/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=763c871b45fc4b20b5a671b24c909

Usb not recognized on when I connect my flip ultra to any computer (mac or pc)... it has worked in the past on my mac and now is recognized by any computer... driving me crazy...

the camera has to powered and on ...and be sure you plug in the right kinda usb ...it needs to be a 2.0
so ..install a 2.0 driver to be sure you have one ..and after that with the camera powered ..plu one by one in each usb port..until it is seen in one...also look at the camera cause some devices need to confirm from them the connection via usb ...
it has to be seen ..if it's not ..change the cable it may be damaged..

This solution worked for me when I got the USB device not recognized message:

It can be quite frustrating. I've heard that older computers are more likely to have the USB device not recognized message.

USB DEvice not recognized

I had a problem like this -- tried plugging the camera in to the rear USB slots not the front ones and it worked fine.

I think that it doesn't like going via a USB hub, but wants a direct connection. All of the USB ports on my computer are connected direct to the motherboard (i.e. none are on PCI cards or anything), but looking at the hardware info for the computer, it looks like the motherboard has a few "direct" USB connections, and then an on-board hub which the front ports connect to. If your computers are the same, that would explain things. I'd suggest trying each USB port one at a time (turn the camera off before plugging in, and back on when in) and see if one of them works. Wouldn't hurt to power the camera from the mains at the time too.

USB port problems with hp printer

There are few things to remember using USB.
  • If your System is in hybernation mode, don't remove any attached USB device, because it will damage your USB driver. This is one of the known problem from microsoft.
  • If you have to remove any USB device use 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
  1. You should un-install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' from Device Manager.
  2. Then re-boot to clean registry.
  3. Install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' using XP Setup CD.
  4. Then check the Mass storage, PDA etc, it should recognized by XP.
  5. Then install printer driver (don't attach printer to system untill setup finish or setup says to connect).

I think it will fix.
Please let me know your feed-back.

Thanks
Iqbal
