I have a vostro 1700 and the touchpad stopped working. I can move the curser and click on the buttons, but tapping on the actual pad does not work. I also use a wireless mouse. Please answer in terms that a dummy can understand. I have already read the manual and they told me to disable the touch pad and then touch touch pad tab to adjust touch pad settings. Click okay. I went to the Control Panel, clicked Hardware and Sound, clicked Mouse and that's where it ended.

That is a bummer for to fix it you have to order the whole top cover and replace it. for some reason the touch pad is broken from under neath and will now not work. I have had to place some of them. to fix it tempery take off the key board and unplug the touch pad and us a reg mouse.

SOURCE: Disable Touchpad Clicking

Hiya, At the bottom right of the screen, by the clock, you should see an icon for the touchpad.....

Hint : Hover the mouse over the icons and wait for the "Pop-Up" Display to see what they do if your not sure.

When you find the one for the touchpad, simply right click it and scroll down to the option that says "Tap To Click" and left click it so that there is NO TICK next to it..........

........ This will DISABLE all tap click options and leave the touchpad as a touchpad and the buttons as buttons...........

Hope This Helps, Kind Regards,

Me :D

SOURCE: Laptop touch pad doesn't work properly

Here is what I did to get the touchpad to start working again. My laptop is Gateway and a couple years old, running Windows Vista.

1. Start>Control Panel
2. Double-click on Mouse icon (or button, depending on how you're systems set up).
3. When a the Mouse Properties window pops up, choose the Device Settings tab.
4. Click on the Settings... button.
5. A new window pops up and on the right side there is a list of options - choose Tapping.
6. Once clicked, there is a check box that allows you to Enable Tapping.
7. Click OK to close out your windows and the tapping option should be enabled on your touchpad.

Hopefully this helps.

My Dell Vostro 1014 laptop's touch pad does not work!! The buttons work fine but I'm having problems with the pad. The drivers are up to date and the application used to control the touchpad c

If you have a external mouse, or you can borrow, go into device manager to see if the pad is enabled, if okay! try a system restore bringing the computer back in time before this happened, if still no luck the sensor pad maybe defective, the last option a complete recovery of the operational system to factory setting, this will prove if the sensor pad is defective, or wire ribbon might have come loose from the motherboard.

Tapping on gateway nv 53 trackpad not working

This just happened on my HP2730P. I always used the click on the touchpad, plus used the right click button at the bottom. Yesterday it just decided to stop working and went haywier...it started doing the selecting and dragging while I was moving the mouse around and my left click stopped working. Obviously my enable tap click was already on cuz I used it all the time.

My solution was disabling the buttons under the "buttons" tab. Then my mousepad tap started working again, I regained function in the scrollbar on the mousepad again, and if I need to right click I can use the point stick buttons right above the pad.

OR

Does it start working when you reboot? If so, try changing the "Touchpad Sensitivity" option :)

My pad wont work wen i tap on it to select only on my user account,on the other account it works fine

if you can still move the curser with the pad then tap to click is probably disabled. go to control pannel and double click the mouse icon. you will find the option to enable tap to click either on the buttons, pointer options, or hardware tabs. it varys with the manufacturer so i cannot say for sure. on dell computers, it's on the dell touchpad options tab.

Acer Aspire curser pad not opening programs

Regarding the touchpad (curser pad), there maybe a problem with your touch pad driver not working or starting up. Check in "msconfig" (you can click on start and run, then type msconfig to bring it up) and click on the startup tab to check which of the startup items are not working.

Also regarding the card reader, i believe the drivers are not installed. Check in Device Manager (click on start /control panel /system icon /device manager) and see what is listed under "other devices"

Sony vaio touch pad not working.

My Vaio touchpad started behaving strange. I could move the curser, but no response on left or right click or double tap. Also found that in any search field or user name fields, the computer would just type endless 9's. My wireless mouse could operate the left and right click buttons, but not move the curser. A suggestion to get the mousepad operating again was to touch any key on the keyboard. This allowed it to function again. Final solution was to remove the battery, then hold down the start key for about a minute, reinsert the battery and start it up. It seems to have resolved the problem. I have a 3 month only laptop with Windows 7 already installed. Hope this helps.
