I connected a Sony Vaio notebook via hdmi. Perfect picture but no sound. The notebook works perfectly with other TVs, so I don't think it's the computer settings.

What are you connecting to that HDMI input? Some devices do not put the audio on the HDMI cable. For instance: If your laptop has a HDMI out and you connect it to a HDMI input on the TV, you'll get a perfect picture without sound
On the Vaio: right click volume on system tray and select playback devices select hdmi/ sdip as default and then in the properties deselect dolby
If you don't have those options you may need new drivers installed on your Vaio. Do you have windows xp? The driver can be found here: support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/info/info.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&url=Vaio/Original/AR2_Drivers.zip&ip=RAID_AR21.htm
If you have vista the driver can be found here:

On the television make sure you are on the right input. Press menu--setup--hdmi setup--audio select--digital
1. You should check you cabling connections at the satellite receiver to the TV. 2. Check the mode you are in on the HDMI cable 3. Your HDMI should have 3 modes in the set up screen (HDMI 1,2,3)
Hello, I am sorry about your issue. It sounds like your receiver may need to be serviced. Please contact Onkyo at 800-229-1687 option #3 so that we can troubleshoot with you and advise of your options. Thank you, CB
There is no secret to adjusting the picture settings on this unit. My unit is perfect with Hi Def signal and better with Blu Ray. I assume you are using HDMI cables and have tried a new HDMI cable to eliminate the possibility of a bad cable. If you have done this then the unit has a problem and I would take it back or contact Sharp to get an auth. service center involved.
You might want to try a system manufactured on the last two years most brand new components will support HDMI connections, of course the price will be a important too but you can find systems for about $200. Any brand of your liking will do just look for the HDMI logo on the box or the front of the component. If you consider to keep your amp, try to find a HDMI to AV converter I would not recommend to do this due to the fact that they are pricey and hard to find on top of that think about the loss of quality on your audio and video (personal experience).
Television is only a few years old, however, does get a lot of use.
