Problem with the Whirlpool GH5184XPQ 1100 Watts Microwave Oven: In turning the microwave on this morning, a faint electric sparking was heard. Upon shutting it off and opening the door an acrid burning...

The problem is that the magnetron is arcing when it is running and it has found a couple bare spots 'exposing the metal'. The microwave uses a special industrial white enamel paint to prevent arcing, it is very important that the oven be removed from service until the situation is rectified otherwise there is a danger of shorting out the magnetron.

We have a whirlpool GH5184XPS-4 microwave that we are getting an F7 error on. We removed control panel and parts of the board were scorched. we resoldered in loose parts still have smae problem

From the technical sheet usually located behind the control panel or grille:

F7 Power to magnetron interrupted

1. Check the door, hinge and cavity front alignment. Adjust as needed.

2. Check the operation of all interlock switches.

3. To check the over-temperature protection for the magnetron, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.

4. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.

5. If this solves the problem, check the cooling fan for proper operation or blockage.

6. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.

7. Check resistance of the magnetron thermostat. It should be close to 0 ohms. If necessary, replace magnetron thermostat.

8. Check that the control cable to the 1100 watt inverter is correctly connected to plug P2 on the display PCB. If necessary, adjust or reconnect.

9. If interlock switches operate correctly, replace 1100W inverter.

10. If problem persists, replace electronic control.

11. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

Display has a f2 code on it. whirlpool oven is model mh1150xm and less than 3 years old.

determined from whirlpool that the f2 display is from the control circuit board. the board's problem is intermittent and needs eventually replacing. not covered by warranty. determined that whirlpool has reduced the warranty for the electronic circuits in its appliances from 5 to 1 year. this is great for consumer confidence in whirlpool. have had trouble with 2 other new whirlpool appliances. probably will not buy another whirlpool appliance.

Microwave troubleshooting

I found the fix to the F3H error on another site. Just turn the power to the microwave off for ~2 minutes at the circuit breaker, and then turn it back on. Microwave will start working again then.
