When you say the white wire is "ignition 2" does that mean it only has power in the "run" and "start" positions? What positions does this wire have power????????????
That is correct. That wire needs to see ignition through the cranking cycle, or you will have transmission shifting issues.

The white wire will only have voltage in the Off (bulb test), Run, and Start positons. It will not have voltage in the Lock or Accessorie Postion. When this wire's contact opens you will have no Tachometer, Speedomete, or Gear shift indicator. Also the Check Engine light will be on and Transmission will be usually stuck in 2nd gear (called limp mode). I installed an aftermarket replacement switch and it last 92 days. I am going back with the OEM replacement and troubleshooting connections, Grounds, and Shift solenoids, Ect
