a palm on the right side is a concern?

  • jackie2222 Jan 01, 2009

I had 400 pictures on the camera. The playback was somehow changed to a large and a small frame. A hand kept appearing. The pictures were longer and had white at the top and bottom of the picture. Took out the SD card, reset the camera and lost 300 of the previous picture after card put back in. Is there any way to retrieve the 300 pictures from the camera, since they are not on the sd card?

Simply wanted to mention that this "shaking hand" icon also appears on my camera, brand new, not in movie or recording mode, and does not respond user-manual recommended ISO settings that should reduce/ eliminate stabilization problems, and therefore, presumably, the warning icon. Defect, perhaps? Also, user manual content differs from actual hardware, with no mention of this fact. Sadly, Canon seems unresponsive, so far auto-refusing an email request for tech help, my first attempt on a Saturday. No tech database to speak of either for the G9, so we're on our own apparently. Very disappointing.

While I can't be specific for your camera the "Palm" sign normally indicates that "Anti-shake stabilisation" is operational and although you can normally turn it off it is preferable not to as it improves the quality of your recording especially when using long zoom.

I got the Canon Power Shot G9 camera for almost 3years . It has been running well. But last month, somehow I could not operate it. It is not battery issue. At first I thought the battery was so old, so I...

The Canon G9 has a design defect, two screws fall out inside the camera and short out the fuse. If you've never had it fixed for no power before this is most likely what has happened to your camera.

Do a Google search for "canon g9 no power repair" and you will see a full repair service including return shipping of your camera for just $85.

Hope this helps!

My Canon G9 had gotten wet and it was dried and returned in working order by a Canon dealer. He said that the camera might develop spots on the lens and a few months later I noticed a hazy area in the...

You can have the lens replaced with the original Canon lens and the camera serviced for under $100. Try this site: www.camerasandparts.com they just do powershots and they are excellent for help with these. Their service prices are down to earth and they do fantastic work. Hope that helps.

Spot on photos

Go with this place: www.camerasandparts.com They are about half of what Canon charges and they do awesome work on the Canon Powershots. All they specialize in are the Canons, they do really great work and they are so much less than Canon on the service.

Canon g9 camera doesnt work in raw only jpeg

Go to the menu for the camera and look for "SAVE". you should have the choice in which format to save the pictures. Select "RAW" and then exit the menu. The camera should now save in RAW format. Some one or something probably switched the setting (such as reset camera).

Canon g9 just wont work

No problem. Just contact Canon Support US via email to discuss your camera's issue and its warranty (amazing that Canon Ireland didn't suggest this). You may have to pay shipping charges, but hopefully that shouldn't be too excessive. Here's the email address:

My Cannon G9 digital camera wont power up even though I have a fully charged battery?

This is usually from a loose screw inside the camera, a screw inside the camera can come loose and cause a short which is very common on the G9. If you go to: www.camerasandparts.com all they deal with is service for the Canon Powershots. They're great if you need a hand with one of these and they automatically do the no power correction on the G7's and the G9's they service which is nice. They are about the least expensive out there at $89 and they include the service and the shipping back. The best part, they do excellent work which is a must for me. Hope that helps you some.

MY G9 IS NOT POWERING ON

It's a common problem with the loose screws on the G7 and the G9 cameras. The camera needs to be serviced since it likely blew a fuse when it shorted. The site that's really good for help with these is: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the powershots and they are less than most places charge. They do wonderful work but the best part is they do the correction for these problem on all G9's they work on so the problem doesn't keep happening. That's where a lot of people go for help with this problem. Good luck with yours.
