I just purchased a Netgear N300 wireless usb adapter. After installing the netgear software it ask for the WEP code off of the Centurylink provided Zyxel 660hw. The problem is the WEP code on the bottom of the router us 10 digits and the netgear 300n only accepts 8 digits. Can I change the WEP code? Do I need to buy another Wireless usb brand? Help. :)

It might not need for WIn8 to detect the adapter. when that screen appears cancel/close of otherwise kill the process and see if the adapter is recognized in Device Manager without any error icons.

Most likely you don't. But, you can create a new one if you know the password to the router. Most Netgear products use admin as the user name and, by default, password as the password. Out of the box, the address of an N300 is 192.168.1.1 If you open a browser on a WIRED connection and type in that address, it will open a box to log into the Netgear. If you can't remember THAT password, then you only recourse is to reset the router and start over.

Once you log into the router there's a tab down the left side that says Wireless Settings. In it, you will have a list of the wireless security and, if WEP the passphrase will be displayed. For any other type of security, just pick a new one. Instructions are on the right side of the screen if you need help.

Got this fix off of newegg, and it works for XP

Install the updated software package from Netgear. Go into C:/ Program Files/Netgear/ and copy the Driver folder. Paste to your desktop or wherever.

Uninstall the Netgear software. Plug the wireless adapter back in, let Windows locate, and point it to the XP folder in the drivers folder. You're up and running. ^.^

Get a usb flash drive and go to the library or a computer hooked to the Internet, and download the installation software from the Netgear site.Then plug that usb flash drive into the computer and install the netgear wireless adapter.

I was also having trouble with my Netgear wireless n USB adapter connecting to my new at@t 2WIRE gateway. The problem was that the netgear software wouldn't allow my computer to stay connected to my 2WIRE gateway and the software wouldn't allow Windows when restarting my computer. I have Windows XP and after hours with at@t support there was no resolution and they gave me Netgear's suport number to call 1-888-638-4327. After 10 min. the problem was fixed. They had me click start icon at bottom left corner then all programs, then highlight "start up" and if you see anything like netgear adapter or netgear start up wizard right click on it and click delete. That was it! rebooted my computer and it connected automatically!!! I'm not very computer knowledgable but I hope this helped
