Maytag Skybox Beverage Dispenser Not Cooling

Master_Tech,
I'm have the same problem as everyone else with this unit, compressor clicking on for a few seconds, then off and not cooling. Would you please send me a copy of the service manual too, and do you have any recommendations as to where I could get the starter relay?

Need relay for Maytag Skybox Model #MBV1976AAB. Maytag doesn't sell parts to support the Skybox anymore so am hoping to find it elsewhere.

Sears.com is selling skybox parts. Go to appliance and parts and put in the model number of the skybox it is either mbv1976aab or mbv1976aap -- you can find this on the back of the skybox. It might have the part you need.

Hi my skybox stop cooling

The SkyBox operates with two individual systems. The dispenser assembly, the LED indicators and the circulating fan operate on a low voltage circuit. The circulating fan runs anytime the SkyBox is plugged in.

The cooling system operates on 120vac. The cold control inside the beverage compartment is an on demand switch that sends 120vac to the compressor when cooling is needed. There are no parts available for the compressor, so if it determined that power is reaching the compressor, the windings are ok, a 3 in1 hard start kit (Supco URCO210) can be installed by a qualified service technician.

Removing compressor from skybox

Maytag never offered a replacement compressor for the SkyBox units. It was not a cost effective repar to make. If you are sure the thermostat is supplying 120VAC to the compressor, you can install a Supco URCO410 relay/capacitor/overload kit. This part should only be installed by a qualified service technician.

Maytag Skybox not cooling

sounds like compressor relay --- if the fan and compressor come on and then shut off after about 5-10 seconds -- its the relay --- sometimes you have to also replace the transformer and capacitor on the opposite side of the unit --- all items are accesible from the back of the unit

Maytag skybox start relay is bad

you need to change the overload relay ---- there is a company called appliancezone.com

they sell the overload relay unit with all the parts for $26.00

email me back if you cant find it---- put in the model # for the skybox unit and you will see the item

item # 4387835

this is the problem -- if this relay goes bad the compressor will stay on and not supply cold air to the unit ----

Maytag skybox cooling

Is it cooling at all? Do you hear the compressor start or just a buzz for a few seconds? This sounds like a compressor or compressor start relay failure. Unplug the machine. Access the compressor and remove the relay that is plugged to the side of it. Shake it and see if it sounds like there are a lot of loose pieces in it. Inspect it for burned spots. If you find either one of these, it is bad. If it doesn't rattle or appear burned then the compressor is probably bad. Even if it seems ok, I would try a new one on it anyway. They aren't usually very expensive. If the relay is not the problem, check your owners manual for the warranty info. The compressor may still be covered by warranty even if the rest of the unit is out of warranty.
