Glass door The external glass on the door has been broken, can I replace it with any glass or is it a special glass? if I replace it with normal glass will it leak microwaves? Bob

If your home doors have screws or screw plugs on the interior side of that of the window frame then, it can be replaced. You can purchase these glass inserts at the original dealer from where you have purchased your door from. In case you are not sure of the dealer then, you can go to any independent dealer for purchasing a glass unit from their exterior doors catalog. However, if you have bought a decorative glass insert that was purchased from a home center then, you will have to go to that particular home center and need to give them a special order for a new glass unit.

I suggest calling service any work on a door needs a special detector after the repair to any door part. Only service techs carry these units.

NO, do not use the microwave with a broken door glass, this glass is specially protected to stop any dangerous microwave leakage, it is also something you cannot replace yourself, take it to a reputable service centre so that once the glass has been repaire the oven can be tested for safety purposes.

No! The microwave uses a special treated glass for safety and protection.

Hi Bill, I am having a same problem I have managed to order the glass from:-

1. Open the door.

2. Take out the 2 screws just behind the handle, on the inside of the door, the door should flop down at the handle end.

3. Hold the door handle and pull the door out. It is only housed in by a slip in hooks at the bottom end.

4. Once you remove the door you will see the inner metal mesh and the inner door behind it.

5. Remove the 16 screws holding the inner glass with a special star type screw driver bit no T30.

6. Once you done that the glass housing holding the inner glass can be carefully prised free and taken off the inner door assembley.

7. Once you done that remove and inner glass, and be carefull to leave the glass glass seal intact, clean around the frame housing and the seal then replace the new inner glass and reverse the process.

PS. Becareful of the inner door once you've removed the outer door, as the hinges holding the inner door tend to shut quickly as there is less weight on the hinges.

It will do the job if you follow these instructions.Good Luck. AL

Be very careful with microwaves. I would not work on it myself. Technicians actually have a meter to measure for leaks after they put it back together. I would be surprised if you could get parts for it anyway. You risk life and limb if you get it wrong.

The plastic cover on the inside of the door is purely push fit.
To force it off I used 2 strong stainless steel dinner knives.
By easing one knife between the internal glass and the plastic cover I managed to spring one corner by using the other knife on the external bottom edge of the plastic cover.
Try concentrating on one end and once this springs out it is easy to free the rest without having to take it off completely.
The hook is simple to do but be careful with the spring.
All in all it took 3 minutes!
