SD Card not readable in Nikon Coolpix S1

It is readable on my Mac using a card reader. But the camera will not read the card, nor allow any pictures to be taken. I can access the preferences on the camera, but the background is not black as it normally was, but whatever is showing through the lens.
I bought a new SD card and tried it to no avail after managing to format it in camera.
thank you, gholmes

The Mac will not format the PC type code. A FAT code I think it is. Mac formatting really ruins it.

Hi,

Try to reformat the card from your MAC.

FAT/FAT32 is compatible with both PCs and MACs. NTFS is not.

Can I recover a deleted photo from Nikon Coolpix camera

yes, you can recover deleted photos from camera with asoftech photo recovery program.
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/index.html

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

How do i upload pictures from my nikon coolpix s1

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

I have a Nikon coolpix P2. I have a SD card in it

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the pictures on your SD card, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Nikon coolpix sd cards read empty in any computer but when in the camera i can see all the pics and sd card reds almost full

This happened to me before with a Nikon Coolpix camera as well. this is due to a virus obtained by the memory card when I inserted it to a friend's computer. What I did was I typed in the direct path of the pictures folder into the address bar, say if you are using a memory card reader and says F: as the drive for your device, you can try to go directly into the pictures folder by typing in F:DCIM and press enter. Once you are able to access your pictures folder copy them all into your computer and format the memory card after using your camera and you are ready to go. Hope this one works for you.

Downloading pictures from Nikon Coolpix 4600

Hi, Pity you aren't using Apple Mac OSX. All I can suggest is that you re-boot the camera whilst you are plugged into the USB. ie turn the camera off then on.  If that doesn't work then unplug the usb and reinsert. If all that doesn't work then use some other device such as a SD card reader that allows you to access the contents read by the computer.  The more I type the more I am suspect this is a Vista driver issue. So try to circumvent the camera being plugged and instead just use an adapter that allows your computer to read an SD card. These things are readily available at prices between $20 & $30 -  or possibly you might have one as part of your printer.

Nikon Coolpix S1 won't read card.

I am confused. If you can FORMAT the SD card when it is in the camera (FORMAT is successful) you SHOULD be able to use it.
