An F9 error code on a General Electric oven indicates that the oven's electronic control system has detected a problem with the automatic door lock. The automatic door lock mechanism prevents the oven door from being opened when the oven is set for "Clean" mode. The malfunction may be a jammed door lock mechanism, a pinched or broken wire, a faulty lock switch or a fault in the control board itself.

Things You'll Need:

  • Ohmmeter or multimeter
  • Phillips screwdriver
#step1

Disconnect power to the oven.
#
Step 2

Open the oven door. Remove three screws from underneath the oven's control panel. Lift the control panel straight up to disengage the mounting pins on the top corners of the panel, then tip the panel toward you.
#
Step 3

Inspect the door lock mechanism. The mechanism is in the lower left area of the space behind the control panel. Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to be certain it moves without binding. Replace the mechanism if its mechanical parts do not function properly.
#
Step 4

Inspect the wires that connect the door lock mechanism to the control panel. Check for pinched or broken wires. Check for wires with frayed insulation. Repair wires as needed if defects are present.
#
Step 5

Locate the six-pin connector on the door lock motor on the right end of the door lock mechanism.
#
Step 6

Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to the unlocked position. Test the resistance between Pin 3 and Pin 1 of the door lock connector with the ohmmeter. The resistance should be 0. Replace Lock Switch 2 of the door lock mechanism if the resistance reads other than 0.
#
Step 7

Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to the locked position. Test the resistance between Pin 3 and Pin 2 of the door lock connector with the ohmmeter. The resistance should be 0. Replace Lock Switch 1 of the door lock mechanism if the resistance reads other than 0.
#
Step 8

Contact a certified repair facility if the source of the F9 code has not been discovered.
Troubleshooting the oven with the electric power turned on is a job for a certified technician.

Do not perform troubleshooting on the oven with the power connected. Personal injury and damage to the oven can result.

F9 code

As always, we would really need the full model number from the tag on the unit to be able to give you detailed help.

Otherwise we can only help in a general sense.

Please post a new help request with your full model number and very detailed symptoms, namely what it's doing or not doing, and when.
But F9 generally indicates a problem with the door latches or switches, except on microwaves, for which F9 is usually a problem with the inverter or related circutiry.

F9 fault. I replaced the main control panel, with the led display. Still F9 fault after 9 sec. Also get a high pitch humming sound at times. Heats most of the time & F9 does not always come up when...

That sounds like a problem on the invertor board. Unfortunately there is not a lot to be done on the board without a service manual and the needed experience.
Hope that helps.

Model number 721 82364200. Code F9 continues to show up. Seems to be connected to clock. Works intermitting. Makes a noise when working but is very inconsistent. Not sure what to do.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

The F9 error code indicates an inverter failure. If you continue to receive the F9 error code after unplugging the unit for 5 minutes, the control system assembly may need to be replaced.

Note : Microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair.

Kenmore Microwavonly works intermittently shows F9 what is wrong?

There could be one of many possible failures causing the "F9" fault code. It could be a loose wire connection between the magnetron, control PCB or the inverter. It could have failed PCB, inverter module or magnetron. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your microwave. NOTE: Do not attempt to

Humming sound, F9 and dead

Seems like I answered this, but maybe it's a different poster.

The 721 model code means it's an LG/Goldstar-made oven and F9 indicates a problem with the inverter or magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models.

I would suggest you contact Sears for service.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Kemore microwave model number 721.63763300

F9 is an error that indicates an inverter board or magnetron
has failed. With the F9 error cleared, start the oven and
listen for a ticking sound. The inverter will attempt to
'fire' the magnetron 5 times.(ticking sound). If can hear
ticking, replace magnetron. Check owners manual. Part may be covered by limited warranty.

F9 error code

F9 is caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

This can be caused by slamming the door or by habitually opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
