When you turn on the camera, message Memory stick error appears. Camera works fine with internal memory but not when using sony memory stick PRO DUO

Hi,
Try to format memory stick through camera menu to solve this problem and if camera wont allow to format then try/ replace memory stick as this PRO DUO could be defective.
If another memory stick gives same problem then memory stick slot connectors could be bad and visual check by local camera repair shop is required.
Thanks.

I have a Sony Memory Stick Duo Adapter with 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo insert. When I put in my DCR-TRV18 camera and switch it to Memory, I get Memory Stick Error on the screen

On many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be the same on your handycam.

You can increase memory stick to at least 2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the shop, if it works , then buy it.

However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.

Sandisc 4 GB memory stick PRO Duo not working

According to the users manual, the camera does not support above 512 MB cards, however I noticed that there is a firmware update which might address the issue. Go to www.sony.com and support, electronics. Put your model number in the selection box and you'll be taken to the drivers download page.

Maximum Memory Stick size I can put into my Sony DSC-N1

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the internal card reader in the camera to accept higher density memory cards. You can find the memory stick compatibility list here: https://esupport.sony.com/perl/support-info.pl?&info_id=12 . Scroll down to the Cybershot N Series camera list. The maximum capacity memory stick is 4 GB memory stick pro or M2 Memory stick Pro. For the Memory Stick Duo, it looks like those have a maximum capacity of 2 GB.

I hope this helps.

Memory Stick Pro Duo 8GB on PsP

Two possibilities.
1. The firmware on your PSP is too old to recognise the 8GB (only recognises up to 4GB).
2. If firmware is up to date you have a fake memory stick (easy way to check is to check the info for the memory stick on your PSP if its says that MAGIC GATE is unknown rather than supported then it is fake.

The fake ones typically double compress the data so that it appears to have 8GB when in reality it does not.
