Our Canon ImageRunner 400S says to replace the waste toner container. However, I can't find in the manual how to do that.

The waste toner on this machine ends up in the drum unit. The drum unit normally needs replacing before it fills with toner. If you do need to empty it------take the drum unit out of the machine, and on the side is a plastic stopper.....remove this and empty the toner out.......don't use a vacuum cleaner as the toner particles are smaller than the filter on the vacuum...you end up with toner all over the place and a knackered vacuum...

That means the toner waste bottle is full. Located behind the panel on the right side of machine close to the rear. About 12 '' high or so. Turn off machine. Remove the two screws that hold the panel and remove the panel. Pull out the The plastic container you see which has toner inside which is no good and is waste. Empty it in a secure garbage bag etc so it doesn't get all over the place. Then replace the the container, making sure it is securely in place as it was before you started. Refit the panel and the two screws. Then Turn machine on.

remove the drum unit from the copier

open the plastic flap of back side on the drum unit

tack out the waste toner

then close the plastic flap

The waste toner bottle is hidden behind the front cover of the machine. Just under where you fit the toner cartridge.
If you are competant with a screwdriver, remove this cover and you will find the Waste container. The screws for the cover are hidden behind a rubber bung.

on right hand side is waste toner you should be able to dump it yourself the main problem is reseting the counter that is not included in your manual Go into service mode by depressing the additional function key, then 2 & 8 at the same time, then aditionall function key. Select copier, then at the top far left side select counter. I blieve the counter is under MISC as waste toner. Select waste toner, depress the " C " buton on the keypad and it should reset to all 0's

If you open the front door,the plastic container in front is the waste toner container .Remove that bottle and dump all that toner.Make sure the neck of the container is free from toner inside and outside.And put the container back in it's place.

2:open the drum unit & open waste toner cap &remove the waste toner & close the cap&insret the drum unit into m/c .problem solve.
