I have a new Emachines 250 netbook running Windows 7 with an Atheros Ethernet card and a Broadcom 801g wlan card. I can see my wireless network, but when I try to connect to it I get a message saying the computer is unable to connect to the network. According to my device manager all my drivers are up to date and I have the latest firmware in my router. Two other machine is the house running XP are connecting with no issue. Does anyone have any idea as to what I need to try next?
Have you checked the encription method (WPA or WEP) - usernama and password or just a password for the second type
As it seems you have 2 wireless cards on your laptop. Try to temporarly disable one of them (I preffer to disable the Broadcom). Atheros may came with its own software for establishing a WiFi connection.
About the security, there will be a small icon (a lock) on the available connection. You'll have to click and input somewhere the required username and password for WPA. If dont know this, you can check on the other computer that can establish a connection.

Security is WPA2 AES. Is it worth removing this temporarily or changing the type? I've not been asked for the passcode at all when trying to connect. This morning the machine isn't even showing the network on the list of those available locally. They are all secure so I can't connect to them to test whether it will connect to any network.
