Audiovox 2 way family radio charger (for 4 radios). Plug in RV and no lights displayed indication it's charging. Remove inline fuse and it's ok. Put fuse back in and orange lights come on indicating it's charging but stay on only a few seconds and go out. Remove fuse, put it back in and again lights are on for a few seconds and go out. Left RV plugged in for several hours and radios never charged. Audiovox 2 way family radio charger in RV. FRS4WM ser#103100497

It sounds like you have some corrosion on the terminals. Remove the batteries and with a good light source look at the springs and plates to make sure there is no corrosion. If there is remove it with crocus cloth. Check the batteries also for corrosion. If you find any remove it the same way. If after cleaning everything the batteries still will not charge get new ones as you probably have one or more which are shorted.

I have a pair of sp10 and having trouble charging them and the batteries are new and when i put them in the charger i have to turn them on for the chargeing light to come on is this normal or are the...

You do not mention if you are using a wall plug charger, or a drop-in charger. We will give troubleshooting tips for both. To answer your question: If the light comes on and stays on, on the charger your charger is good. You have a radio or battery problem.

Wall Charger:
The light on the HTN8232 wall charger should come on and stay on when plugged into the radio, with the radio turned off. The fact the light comes on when the radio is turned on indicates your batteries are either no good, too low to charge, or you have a battery contact problem.
Solutions: 1) Clean your battery contacts with a pencil eraser.
2) Be certain the batteries are installed correctly.
3) Check your battery date code (three digit number on back of battery above the stop sign. First number is year, next two numbers are the week of the year. Batteries last about 2 years.)
4) Check to see your new batteries are NiCd batteries. The wall charger method is not compatible with NiMH batteries.
5) Try a charged battery from another radio and see if the charger light comes on and stays on with a different battery.

Drop-In Charger:
If you are using a drop-in charger, you would be using the above listed HTN8232 wall plug charger plugged into the tray. Here are some possible solutions for the drop-in charger:
1) Clean the exterior battery contacts with a pencil eraser.
2) Check to see if the wall charger will work when plugged directly into the radio.
3) If the charge capability of the radio seems compromised, take the battery out of the radio and charge it alone in the drop-in charger.

NOTE: Do not use the PTT if you are turn on the radio when plugged into the charger. This will burn out components in your radio.

The SP10 radio is known to be a repairable radio. (Generally around $69 flat rate.)

Best regards.

Hello there:
You can go to the manufacture of the radio's www.audiovox.com and just look for your make and model and try to get it there.
Or you might try radio shack, and maybe even ebay ok?

Problem charging

If you are referring to a flashing yellow light on the charging base, this is an error code. Either the 1) battery is bad, 2) not making good contact in the charger, or 3) very very low on charge. The solution for this set of problems is as follows: 1) have the company you purchased them from replace them, 2) clean your contacts with a pencil eraser, 3) leave the battery on the charger with the yellow light flashing for an hour or two. If the battery is just very low on a charge, it will come back to life and the light will change to be constant. If the battery is bad or shorted out, the light will continue to flash and you will need to get with the vendor you purchased the batteries from.

Other things which come to mind are compatibility issues such as you are using a different battery chemistry than you had before. NiCd batteries can charge on either of the two chargers available for the P110 (slow rate or fast rate). However, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries require a fast rate charger.

If you are referring to a yellow blinking light on the radio while it is in the charger. You need to shut your radio off. Radios should always be turned off when charging. If the radio is left on you will never have a full charge. Also, if you inadvertently press the PTT while the radio is turned on, while on a charger, you can cause damage to the radio.

FYI: There is no light to show "out of range" on the radio, unless you are possibly using a trunking or repeater system. A blinking light on your radio indicates the radio is turned on and/or there is traffic on your frequency. Your charger base light can be red, yellow or green. This indicates the charge cycle status. Flashing most always means some type of error.

Best regards

1. isthe battery charging 2.isthe charger

You don't mention a make or model, so I can only give you general solutions. If the radio has a drop-in charger there may be a light to indicate charging. If the light comes on when the radio is in the charger, it's getting a charge. If you have a multimeter, DVM, or DC voltmeter you can check the battery voltage (charge) both before and after a charging cycle. You can also use the meter to confirm the output from the charger. If possible, replace the batteries with standard alkaline types and see if the radio works. I hope this info helps.

How long do you charge the Audiovox GMRS1072CH for.

On Audiovox's 9V 250mA ( not certain) suggested charge time is 8hrs, but if you pop the batteries out of the back and stick them into a dedicated battery charger you can usually have fresh batteries in 2-3hrs.

Audiovox FR530

follow instructions on page 13 of your manual "using monitor button" place receiving radio in monitor and key up other radio. It is better if you have someone help. have another person take the radio to another room away from you to complete test. sometimes if the radios are two close too each other they will cancel each other out.
