E2 error and no resistance

I own the Schwinn 420 elliptical and I keep getting the E2 error on the console and the resistance will not work. I've checked the wires, what else could be causing the problem?

Clean the servo motor's potentiometer with 'tuner cleaner'. Remove the shroud on the 'passenger side' (it's a bit tricky, but not difficult). The potentiometer is a part of the black plastic servo motor assembly that adjusts the band of magnets (the magnets that create drag on the flywheel). The potentiometer measures the angle of the small pulley that tugs on the cable that moves the magnets. As often happens, potentiometers get dirty. In my case, the machine behaved intermittently, sometimes displaying the E2 error code. Cleaning the potentiometer solved the problem. Time will tell whether it's a permanent fix, but it certainly makes sense. If a potentiometer gives the 'brain' a bad signal, the brain won't know what to do. If you're not familiar with a potentiometer, it's a dial, like the volume control dial on your stereo. As you rotate the dial, it raises or lowers the electrical resistance, which the electronic circuitry can detect. In a stereo, it can control the volume. In the Elliptical, it tells the brain the location of the resistance magnets (how close to the flywheel, and thus how much resistance). It's a tight squeeze getting the can of tuner cleaner spray in there. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: The console does not work. E-2 shows up on the console.

We had this problem after assembly as well, it turned out to be a bent pin inside the connector to the flywheel housing (where the wires connect inside the lower part of the main mast). It was so bent that it never actually made contact with the connector.

We straightened the pin, carefully reconnected the wires, and everything worked just fine.

This says to us that the "E-2" error message means the console is missing at least one connection from the system. This could be caused by a bent pin, a torn/cut/frayed wire, etc -- anything that might make it lose signal.

So check the lower connection for bent pins, check the upper connection for bent pins, and check all along the wires for any kind of damage.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: My Schwinn 430 Elliptical is not changing

I think I am experiencing the same problem and have removed the shrouds. Are you experiencing a clicking sound while the unit is plugged in? All of this seems to deal with the servo motor. Don't be fooled by suggestions to replace the rpm sensor...this is NOT the problem. I am trying to find out what the initial setting for the servo motor and the tension cable should be. I found a site where you can order the servo motor, but it tells me that it could be months to receive this part. Sigh...

My Schwinn 420 elliptical is not powering on. The breaker and outlet source are fine. When I plug the machine in nothing powers on. The console displays nothing, no lights, etc.

test the power cord plug, in another device and see if working

2) replace batteries if your system has( clean the contacts from oxide, corrosion with contacts cleaner) and try again when you have isolated the problem

God bless you

The digital read out on my 420 elliptical schwinn system blinks on and off. There is no error code

follow this steps and replace batteries too. God bless you

Check power problems if the console on the elliptical machine does not light up. Make sure that the plug for the machine is secure in the outlet. If it is plugged in, ensure that the outlet is receiving power. Check the breaker to make sure it has not tripped off.
Be sure that you are using the correct adapter that came with the elliptical machine. Because different adapters are able to handle differing amounts of energy, the wrong adapter will not transfer electricity like it should. If the adapter is pinched or damaged, this could also alter its effectiveness.

2 Make sure the correct adapter is being used if the resistance settings seem to be too hard or too easy. If the correct adapter is being used, reset the machine. To reset the machine, either switch the "On/Off" button or unplug the machine from the wall. Doing this will allow the device to reset itself to the default resistance. Turn on or plug the device back into the wall and retry all of the levels of resistanc

E-2 message on schwin 420

You may be able to reset the main board by detaching the ribbon connector, then reattaching it. Unscrew the four screws that hold the display panel, and you will see a ribbon connector and a round connector. Gently squeeze the tab in the center of the ribbon connector and pull it off. Wait a couple of minutes, then reattach the connector by gently pushing it into the socket. The display should show a boot-up process and then the normal blank screen with the prompt to select user. If the E2 error returns, repeat the process. If this procedure does not reset the board, you will need to contact Schwinn about possibly replacing the board. You can contact them by going to Schwinn.com (http://www.schwinnfitness.com/schwinn_fitness_us/customerservice.jsp) and select the "email us" link or call the 800 number.

Eliptical is showing E2

E2 Error Code - As researched here, I found a problem with the electrical wiring to the motor, dc module (P/N 000-8453}. I checked the plug connection for bent pins and bad continuity in the circuit. Okay. What I found was bad connections at what I will call the stepper motor that is located on the module. This motor adjusts the location of the Magnet Pack Assembly in relation to the Flywheel to change workout resistance. The terminals where the wires are soldered to the motor are of a riveted type of connection. By removing the resistence adjusting cable lock nut, threaded end and the cable, I was able to cycle the pulley back into operating range by plugging in and unplugging the power cable multiple times. Each time that I would plug the power in, the pulley would rotate a couple of degrees in the clockwise direction. Then, reattaching the cable assembly, and applying pressure to the stepper motor terminals, the unit would time and orient itself properly when powered up with No Error. To remedy the problem, I applied a little solder using a soldering iron to the riveted type connections making them a Better, soldered connection. I hope this helps.

Error code 2 on schiwnn upright bike

Console displays “E2” error code
Solution: A. Check data cable integrity. All wires in cable should be intact. If any are crimped or cut, replace cable. B. Check data cable connections/orientation. Insure cable is connected securely and oriented properly. Small latch on connector should line up and snap into place. If the above tests reveal no problems, replace the DC Motor.
